Creating Without Limits: Art, Psychology, and God

Hey guys, here are some practices from the past few days. I'm currently drawing and painting for at least an hour per day, not focusing on specific topics, just picking pictures I find interesting and playing around. And by that, I really mean playing around. It feels surprisingly good. I think I really needed to just do. Don't get me wrong, I love creating poems and stories, but god, those are heavy to come up with.

I think I really needed to allow my inner child to come in. I understand if you think it sounds strange for me to speak in those terms, especially if you have a materialistic view of the world like I used to as well. But to put you in context, I have been working on my spiritual side from a psychological and religious point of view, trying to reconcile myself with what I thought God was. As a consequence, I have allowed myself to be less skeptical and cynical about my perspective on life.

But anyways, what does this have to do with art? I guess working on the relationship with myself has also improved my relationship with art. Especially my vision, allowing me to see other ways I could continue creating. Sometimes you get blind to the "right" ways of creating, which is something I often struggle with. These ways, although truthful to some degree, are not absolute, like the way you paint faces or the topics you choose to make art about. Going outside those rules is frightening, slowly losing your perspective and ability to see beyond your limitations.

How can you do that? I think it is too early for me to give you a step-by-step strategy, but so far, I can tell that it is as simple as taking a few minutes of the day to meditate or pray and have an honest and humble conversation with yourself. Be grateful and pay attention to the things you know you can do better. I personally speak with God, whatever you might think that means, and you know what? It is working. Crazy, isn't it? What do I know...

Anyways, keep going guys! We have a great road ahead, but at least we have something meaningful to walk toward. Thank you for your support.

This is so interesting to hear as I'm going through a very similar experience. When one humbles oneself and let go of the rigid thought patterns one believes to be true, one realizes that reality is much larger and stranger than one previously thought. So much more is possible if one just trusts in God, and ignore the fear of not knowing where it is going.

Theodor Urhed

The problem is seeing science as the highest truth—useful, yes, but insufficient, especially since complex parts of us are deeply tied to spiritual stories. Call it psyche if you prefer, but connecting with this—or the idea of God—is essential for truly understanding oneself, in my opinion.

It's important to stay down to earth, but after a while I started thinking that by nature people can only believe in something, anything. Be it science or God. Anything.
