What dungeon generator should I use?

Got a favorite supplement you use for generating ruins/dungeons? Lemme know, and I'll grab it and see if I can use it for Edbert's exploration of the swamp ruin in Episode 9!

What dungeon generator should I use?

Comments

I have it, but have never used it, so I'd love to see the Tome in action! But whatever you use...if I don't own it, I'm sure I'll end up buying it! My poor wallet.

Paul Bimler's Solo dungeon crawler is pretty simple and fun https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/372664/The-Solo-Dungeon-Crawler

well there is always the random dungeon maker in DMG 1e 1st or 2nd printing

Hey there, brand new patron here. Lampblack & Brimstone (who put out The Perilous Wilds) have another product called 'Dungeons Monsters Treasure' which expands on the system found in Perilous Wilds, it's pretty good. If this were Season 1, I would also recommend Seven Deadly Dungeons which is a Savage Worlds product, but could be adapted also.

I second Scarlet Hero for making a solid solo dungeon. There is a free version of just the solo rules if you follow the rabbit hole on Drive ThrRPG.

These are all great suggestions, thanks everyone!

My memory is so bad that forget it by the time I use it. :) Just kidding, I know what it looks like but use random generators to determine what are in the rooms. Though I mostly use Delve and have started playing Forbidden Lands recently. I GM an Ironsworn campaign and use Delve for that, too.

Wow!!!! That is fantastic and fast. You could probably generate a whole other bunch of stuff other than dungeons

I think it's safe to say that whatever you decide will be brilliant and far better than anything I could do, Trevor.

One Page Dungeon is a DM dream made real :) The Tag-tool is awesome ! Thank you for the discovery. However it's maybe not ideal for generating a dungeon in solo-play, as you have the whole map done in once. In solo, you may prefer to create new rooms as your character explore the area. We would need the exact same thing with the possibility to add rooms one after the other. Do you use it in solo play ? How do you keep some suprise ?

I already see a lot of excellent suggestions and can only lend my support to those. Hoever, if you are looking for a very physical and quick generator that gives you the shape AND some content, I would like to direct you to Wallet Dungeons by awkwardturtle.itch.io (can't paste a link in here to save my life it seems!)

A couple of Mythic products by Tana Pidgeon come to mind: Location Crafter (and some supplemental material in Mythic Magazine #2 and #3--with #3 having a Random Dungeon Crawl Generator). Adjacent to Location Crafter would be the Terrain Randomizer. It's a small indie product ($2 at DTRPG) that randomly generates "zones" that get their qualities from something like Mythic descriptors.

I love watabou's one page dungeon generator, as well as the excellent village, city, and region generators found at... https://watabou.itch.io/one-page-dungeon But if you're looking for hard copy, I like Forbidden Lands system and Ironsworn Delve; I've been running an Ironsworn campaign and I like the theater of the mind dungeons.

Our old friends Perilous Wilds and Dungeon Dressing. Yah! Although my last recent "dungeon" was made up just using logic using the new Hasbro HeroQuest board as I wanted only a couple of "rooms" to represent a Cult Hideout via a trapdoor in the forest. The trapdoor represented by a tile in one of the HeroQuest expansions. I left out chambers so maybe Cultists don't sleep much. Just eat and worship dark gods
