Just wondering... How come Rorschach is fan of Hiroshima's bomb and not of Veidt's bomb? That's incoherent and costed his life, mmh
2018-03-23 19:16:55 +0000 UTCThey're doing that somewhat in DC Comics' "Doomsday Clock" series, although the series branches into modern DC as well. So not a pure sequel, but it touches on your idea.

2018-03-21 04:09:50 +0000 UTCWith Ozymandias "successful", what do you think the watchmen-verse looks like in 2018? (I put successful in quotes because I always wondered what would happen after Rorschachs journal was published)
2018-03-19 02:27:54 +0000 UTCHey there! It was quite a frantic reading for me this time around, but I caught up at the end :) 1) I spotted the Comedian badge blood drop shape in the first and last pages of both issue XI and XII (the snow encircling the butterfly, the two Bernies being killed by the blast, the blood above the pale horse poster and the obvious ketchup stain on the assistant t-shirt). They gave me a sense of doom and foreshadowing, but I wonder if they could be there also to point out important things we are not fully aware of, or that we may lost, just like happened to the Comedian with his sense of “comedy” toward life after unveiling Veidt plans. The butterfly could represent the frailty of our life or of life on earth, the two Bernies could hint at human contact and relationships, the pale horse poster to the white horse of the chariot card of the tarot and so to the necessity to embrace both rational and irrational sides of our soul, and the assistant could refer to us, as we need to take action and responsibility to make a difference in our world. 2) I saw two parallelisms for Veidt: page 409, panel 1, he describes a dream and what he says is the exact ending of the black freighter comic, while on page 358, panel 7, his depiction really reminded me of Dr Manhattan on Mars. Is Veidt a failed God-wannabe (Jon will eventually act as God) who ended up becoming a demon (like the Black Freighter protagonist)? 3) I failed to uncover meanings for those curled arrows and crossed-arrows found near the “who watches the watchmen” writing (for example back at page 272, seventh panel), and for the new knot-like one at page 413, fourth panel. Do you have any idea? Thanks and see you soon!
2018-03-19 00:24:37 +0000 UTCHola and shalom from Miami, I keep thinking about that whole bit of Ozymandias/Veidt trying to follow Alexander's path of conquest, of a united world (to "meet in the hall of heroes") seems way too much like simple hero worship. I think his goal was always to one-up Alexander, to have a unified world to make his own. To be Godly, much moreso than Jon. I guess my issue is what does that mean for this new world? A world built on a lie (maybe undone by Rorschach's journal? Also, with veidt almost commenting on "dreaming about swimming to a hideous-" entity like The Black Freighter, what does that mean for the "world's smartest man" whose conscience lets him know that he is no conquering Alexandrian hero? Thanks again for this great club, can't wait to get lit on Dune Messiah.
2018-03-18 22:40:17 +0000 UTCDo you believe ozymandius did the right thing? I might be an A-hole to think he was in the right if there was no other way.
2018-03-18 20:55:03 +0000 UTCIn the movie ending ozymandius frames Manhattan. Would the rest of the world still blame Americans and start ww3 anyway?
2018-03-18 20:53:33 +0000 UTCWhy would ozymandius use a cape, given what happen to Dollar bill?
2018-03-18 20:48:47 +0000 UTCSince Ozy so smart was there any other way to unite the world without bloodshed
2018-03-18 20:48:00 +0000 UTCQuestions sure. Gots a few
2018-03-18 20:47:11 +0000 UTCFirst of all, thank you. Thank you cbg19 and Tyson for bringing together this community with reading and thought, I can't tell you how diving into watchmen this week has helped me. And my question for this last session concerns necessary evils and what it takes to make a decision of necessary evil. Do you feel we all face this choice in our daily lives? I know I have. And do you think you would have what it takes to "pull the trigger" and eradicate an entire city to avoid an apparent impending doom? Do you feel our modern war machine in america is a necessary evil to protect our daily lives or has it become something more sinister under the guise of a necessary evil? I'm still so conflicted about this daily. Are we in America, ozymandiaz or are we more like doctor doom? -curtis
2018-03-18 20:33:59 +0000 UTCHere's a question though: What do you think about Nite Owl (1 and 2) being agents of chaos despite trying their hardest to follow order? NO1 makes Sally's rape situation public and opens that bag of cats, and NO2 tries to stop Ozymandias from saving the world? He also kinda caused MOST of the drama when he started sleeping with Laurie. These boy scouts who are out for the "greater good" are following their order so far they reach it's chaotic end?
