You were talking about the Harkonnens bringing peace so ppl would be bored out of their minds and realize they don't really want peace. You also said we need adversity to grow.... My thoughts, I've thought about this for a long time and I think ppl mistakenly think peace means everyone is sitting around "peacefully" doing nothing. War is a type of competition, but so are the Olympics. There are also cooking competitions, art competitions.... there are ways to compete that aren't deadly. But even if they want to have deadly competitions they should be able to choose that and not have it forced upon them. My idea for world peace is one of a global renaissance. Think SXSW, Coachella, Burning Man, the Olympics....but everywhere all year round. But as they say, the devil's in the details. That's why all 7B ppl should have input into what this end up being. And that's in keeping with the point of a renaissance. Personally I would like to do a Philosophical ad campaign for world peace. Like "got milk" but it would be " what do YOU think world peace would look like?" But I digress. 😁

What's up with the Sardaukar? They are spoken of with such fear and awe but you never really see them in action that much. I mean the Fremin call them good fighters but that is about it. How basass are they?

Do we ever get an explanation of how the water is removed from the bodies?

Are the Sardaukar a genuine threat to the Fremen? Because it seems that the Fremen can defeat them quite easily but then we see that the Sardaukar can still get a jump on the Fremen.

I thought the reason Hawett underestimated the cost the Baron was willing to pay... Was that the Emperor was the one expending most of the resources.

How is the Baron so unaware of the Fremen's power? We haven't been shown how good the Fremen are at intrigue yet... Do they have a card up their sleeve? Can you talk a little about the Fremen's political and power situation at this point in the novel? Who did Herbert try to represent through the Fremen? I find it interesting that Paul now has a very powerful ally in the form of the formidable Fremen. Not only is he physiologically trapped in Arrakis, he's also bound to the planet politically by his bond to Kynes and the Fremen's dependence on spice.

Hi 19. This is my second time reading Dune. On my first read through I kept getting confused between Gurney Hallack and Thiffur Hawat. I've always wondered why Herbert didn't combine these 2 characters into one. Could you talk a little about these two and what importance each character has to Paul and his journey. I was hoping you could expand a little on the idea of Paul's terrible purpose...The concept of fate vs self-fulfilling prophecy ...Karma vs Dharma and the balance of the two...Being a Dark Tower fan Im sure u get the gist
