Sailor Moon - Extended Thoughts

Interesting that Tuxedo Mask represents Earth and that Leo is his sign. My guy and I are both Leo's born a day apart and I laughed a lot at your description of Leo's and Leo men in particular! Lol definitely intense people hehehe. Didn't realise we were opposite Aquarius and kinda found it interesting how Aquarians are rule breakers... I think us Leos are very comfortable with the structures of leadership, power hierarchies and rules/ ruling... so that might explain that relationship! We'd be drawn to each other because we can't really have rule breakers without rule makers and both require creativity and bravery - an interesting tango to and fro ;) It also makes sense then that Leo is based on Earth - here on Earth we create rules in our society and in our hierarchical institutions. It's how we structure/ organise ourselves and make sense of the universe around us (science, law, finance, engineering etc.) In fact I think it's also how we make sense of life and evolution - through order and categorising lifeforms into evolutionary/family trees etc... So him being a Leo and geneticist... It works on a few levels I think? That's some crazy ideas for you anyway - not sure if it's at all accurate :P

Interesting stuff. I'm a big Sailor Moon fab but I've never delved into the astrological side of it. Also, probably worth pointing out that in the original manga, the Starlights were never men, they were just cross dressing women, much like Haruka. Making them actually men was a change the anime made for some reason. I think probably because of Seiya's constantly trying to hook up with Usagi, and Usagi not exactly being turned off by it. Maybe they didn't want Usagi coming off as queer, (see also: the first anime removing her kiss with Haruka) even though in the manga Usagi is definitely canonically bisexual.

Yeah, they've recently started a new dub without any of the stupid changes the first dub made, you can watch it on hulu. AFAIK so far they've only subbed up to the end of R, but they have plans to do the whole thing. The same team is also dubbing Sailor Moon Crystal, the recent reboot of the series that's more in line with the original manga. That's also on hulu.

I loved this! you made me nearly spit my tea out from laughter when you described Pisceans (I'm one). I love the Outer Senshi, too. I completely AGREE about Haruka sporting the guys' uniform at school; fuck man, I would so wear that uniform tooI! It's interesting because it wasn't until I was adult revisiting the manga and anime that I realised through growing up with the Sailor Senshi I actually learned a lot about myself. I've always had a soft spot for Sailor Saturn, I think it might have something to do with being bipolar and often being ill (both mentally and physically), so I always empathized with her character when she was ill and frail. And with all the Pharaoh 90 shenanigans, there was this duality to her personality that, again due to being bipolar, really resonated with me. I was always attracted to the destructive/creative, death/rebirth aspects of her storyarc. I think I envied her for her ability to be reborn. Having said all that, I also really felt in tune with Sailor Pluto. I'm fascinated by cosmology and space-time, astrophysics, etc. Her ability to fuck with space-time always blew my mind. but on a deeper level, Pluto's solitary-ness really resonated with me. she's always by herself, always guarding the gate, and she rarely gets to be part of the group. I felt like she embraced being solitary and made it her own, and that made me more okay with, and accepting of, being a solitary, introverted person; I learned that I didn't need to force myself to be something I wasn't, like forcing myself to be outgoing, for the sake of other people's opinions. aw, yeah. I love Sailor Moon :D
