Tarot Class 9: Minor Arcana Suit of Cups

The Suit of Cups, also known as Chalices, Hearts, Roses, and Coupe, is associated with the Water element. It represents the Emotional World which deals with FEELINGS: love, relationships, attitude, sentiment, friendships, joy, forgiveness, generosity, talent, spiritual fulfillment, and mysticism. Loving thy neighbor and thyself.

 

Ace – Inspiration. Potential for Emotional Energy. The green-light for creative expression. New relationship. A Heart overflowing with Love. Spark of Inspiration. Following Intuition. Becoming a vessel. Reversed indicates a breakthrough in self-love, bottling up emotions, and a creative block.

II – Attraction. Preparing to enter a new relationship, mutual appreciation, partnership, union. Reversed indicates a need to focus on personal relationship with the Self, revulsion, a relationship falling apart, and imbalance. 

III –Community. Collaboration on a creative project, celebration, comradery, socialization. Reversed indicates spending time alone, working independently, neglecting friendships, hard partying, and a toxic clique.

IV – Consideration. Internal deliberation before making a commitment, discernment, waiting for a sign, dissatisfaction, overlooking an obvious solution. Reversed can indicate extreme introversion, unwillingness to commit, and acceptance.

V – Disenchantment. Disappointment, focusing on the negative, build a bridge and get over it. Reversed indicates taking responsibility and learning from a negative experience, forgiveness, expressing gratitude for hardship. 

VI – Reminiscence. Reconnecting with inner child, enjoying the moment, savoring simple pleasures, innocence, familiarity. Reversed indicates unhealthy nostalgia, living in the past, losing touch with inner child, and quiet remembrance.

VII – Choice. Considering options, exploring potential opportunities, daydreaming, imagination. Reversed indicates decision fatigue, escapism into fantasy, leaving an unrealistic aspiration behind, and delusion.

VIII – Relinquishment. Leaving the comfort zone, spiritual journey to find true fulfillment, exiting a problematic situation. Reversed indicates an unwillingness to leave a toxic situation, emotional purgatory, thinking everyone else is the problem.  

IX – Contentment. Self-Satisfaction, emotional gratification, delighting in the fruits of labor, wish fulfillment. Reversed indicates secret gratification, smugness, dissatisfaction with achievement, and hedonism. 

X – Fulfillment. A happy home, wholeness, harmoniousness, an idyllic life. Reversed indicates neglecting relationships for perceived success in the future, a toxic group, and compromising oneself by succumbing to a hive mind. 

  Page – Following an intuitive inspiration, an openness to new ideas, desire for creative expression, an unexpected and/or pleasant surprise, budding artist, sensitivity, dreamer, Reversed indicates a creative block, lack of inspiration, emotional immaturity, drama queen, shit-stirrer, impractical idealism, and keeping an idea to yourself, and an idea still in the process of development.

Knight – Undertaking a project or relationship you genuinely care about. Questing for a Grail. An Invitation to Follow the Heart. Making a dream a reality. Seduction. Romance. Charm. A Humanitarian. Reversed indicates letting emotions get in the way, disconnection from reality, being overly romantic about a situation, a fuckboi, a con-man, moodiness, jealousy, and a half-baked idea.   

Queen – Compassionate Care-Giver Energy. In the Creative Flow. Trusting a Developed Intuition. A Good Listener. Emotionally In-Tune without being Overwhelmed. Warmth. Authenticity. Clairvoyance.
