I just have to ask if your jump suit is an homage to Star Trek Enterprise, or if you're a member of the Goodyear Racing pit crew or something, so I'm asking

The scanning thing is a thing. In the G1 80s cartoon they were reconfigured in the first ep and never changed after that. They introduced the idea of scanning for an alternate mode in the 90s CGI cartoon Beast Wars. After this, the IDW comics introduced the idea of scanning and selecting an alternate mode on the fly. And by the time you get to the Bayformers, they can just do it whenever they need to. They've never really said if there were any limitations to the ability. But for at least 15 years or so, this has been a thing / concept within the various Transformers continuities. In the comics, their robot modes will usually change to reflect their change in alternate modes. As for the Decepticons changing from air to ground modes, they were triple changers. Triple changers are a thing from the G1 cartoon. Great review guys!

Read the 80's Marvel comics series. At least like the first 10 issues...
