One criticism I would have about the discussion of Capt. Marvel is how come no one's discussing the idea that the character wasn't written well from the beginning because most of the writers probably had little to no interest in writing a powerful woman protagonist well over the long history of the character in the Marvel Universe well before getting to this movie? I mean how many A1 level female protagonists have been in the Marvel Universe? I think Storm is the only one and even that's questionable because she had been second tier for a long time with even her leadership of the X-Men being short lived and generally inconsequential anyway since the X-Men really always lived in the shadow of Wolverine. Even Storm's "Upgraded" story path that probably started around the same time the X-Men movies and was likely developed to attract film investors instead building a better core component of the Marvel Universe was kinda half baked because she was peeled off and written by several writers in way that made it almost part of a separate continuity and easily disregarded. I never liked Spiderman 2. The original Tobey Maguire Spiderman was the breakthrough that transcended the genre. Spiderman 2 was like a cookie cutter superhero story that just dotted all the i's and crossed all the t's.

Has anyone else been a fan of Brie's since United State's of Tara? I'm rewatching that in the lead up to cap marvel bc it's so wacky and I'm hoping the movie is too.

They are also trying to set her up to be the new Avengers leader after Cap and Tony leave. That's why it is going to hurt so bad if the mo vie doesn't do amazing.

I agree that Captain Marvel is no Wonder Woman but she serves a purpose and the movie can still be enjoyable and we still need to watch it first without prejudice or those people should not see it at all.

I think more of it is just that Marvel's been getting harrassed about having no female leads forever, and now they want to make the one they're doing a big deal. I'm almost tempted to admit casting Brie might have been a mistake... but I feel like that's what the trolls are after. She's fine. She looks alright. It's really not true that Captain Marvel is a C-lister though. She certainly used to be (when I was growing up I knew her best as binary, with the Starjammers for heaven's sake. THE STARJAMMERS, of all groups), but I'd say she's at least B+ now, after being the focus of Civil War 2, being prominent in the new Avengers comics etc. etc. Also, I bet their next big plot arc they're heading for is Secret Invasion. I don't think it's an accident they're introducing the skrulls just before Endgame. I hope Captain Marvel is good. I'm reckoning it'll be a mid-range, good but not amazing MCU entry. 'Course if audience buzz is good it might skyrocket. Certainly doesn't have the Black Panther 'cultural event' feel. But reporting says ticket pre-sales for Captain Marvel are really high. I am curious: who would you cast for a modern Storm? (which might even be relevant since the mutants are coming sooner or later...)

To me saying you want more diversity is the same as saying you don't want any diversity. How about just saying you hope everyone enjoys the movie. EVERYONE. Great take though. You're so levelheaded and it's refreshing.
