War Club Chapter 10 Qs

Comments

I loved the story about the fighter pilot John Boyd navigating his way through Pentagon bureaucracy, especially his tactic of asking generals to put their orders in writing. Email has been the bane of my existence since the beginning of time. I can’t stand it, however, I have used it to deter aggressive coworkers much in the same way as Boyd. Once I CC’ed the right person, said coworker became much more docile. Do you have any similar experiences of tricking others into backing down?

Women are not taught how to use their power in this manner. If anything we get a bazillion subtle and overt messages to say we need to be as pleasing and approachable as possible to get anything in life. Can you think of some good female role models who used intimidation or fear tactics as a strategy? I think Madonna might be one? Although, do women need to use their sexual power to intimidate? Interested in your thoughts! P.S. Loving class Danika! Thanks so much :)

Are you intimidated by people who are seemingly crazy or are you more at home with them? Do you feel like you, yourself are a bit intimidating and crazy, but in a good way? Do you use this tactic in your personal and business life? Crazy is definitely more interesting imo, but not toooo crazy tho. Personally I have used this tactic but I try not to go overboard with it, which I feel can lead to more problems overall, especially in the workplace and interpersonal relationships.

This is the chapter I could've used most in High School fo sho. Did you ever have to use any of the strategies from this chapter back in the day in Alabama?

intimidation works. I admit to doing it when I want to be left uninterrupted. I practice subtle intimidation based on indirect visual ques like appearing hurried, looking frustrated, and avoiding eye contact. How do you practice this strategy in your life?

Deterrence can come in many forms, from "you'll get hurt if you attack" (the porcupine) to "it's not worth attacking" (the shit car among fancy ones, i.e. you'll waste resources for nothing if you attack). And then there's mutually assured destruction (aka M.A.D.). Any advice on picking which of these different approaches under what circumstances?

I totally understand this strategy and the reason behind it. My question is do you have any suggestions for not overdoing the strategy? I've been using projecting being fearsome since I was a pre adolescent and I certainly tend to over do it. Thanks, I love you very much.
