WAR CLUB Chapter 16/17 Qs

Loved the story about Scipio Africanus taking down Hannibal. Instead of being clouded by his father’s death he kept a level head and calculated each step perfectly. He rebelliously defied his orders, took New Carthage, schemed his way out of entrapment on the peninsula, destroyed valuable farmlands, and forced Hannibal into complete defeat. Have you ever had an extremely personal conflict when you were able to set aside emotion and attain that flawless victory? I struggle with this.

I'm a huge fan of HBO's the Wire and back in the late zeroes I watched the Zeitgeist documentaries amongst other docs which detail how the powers that be constantly use the Divide and Conquer strategy against the populace. Based on being a fan of your shows for a while I'm assuming you've been aware of this as well. Was there anything in particular which made you realize that or did you figure it out on your own?

I like how Chapter 17 creates an argument for why your education as a form of protest is worthy. There is no doubt that there is power in numbers. Movements that capture the hearts and minds of the majority change history. However, group-think and blind following of the status quo means large groups of people can be susceptible to division. Through education you can make large groups more resilient to fuckery and less able to be divided. <3 Thanks D! Oh QUESTION: Do you think there's any essential reading or documentary that helps greater understanding for the current George Floyd protests in the world? E.g. I found the Netflix documentary "13th" to be really great.

Chapter 17. As opposed to chapter 16, this chapter felt very relatable to everyday life. When I am faced with what feels like a daunting task I will approach it with a view of making small victories which will result in ultimate success. Do you have any thoughts or examples of applying this strategy to everyday life?

Chapter 16. This chapter felt hella dark when thought of in terms of everyday life. Your thoughts on applying this strategy to your everyday life?

Red Sonja's mate

On hitting them where it hurts: I disagree with the author, there is a reversal (which he sort of alludes to in the next chapter): you go for the king, you best not miss. There's a greater chance of backlash and/or mutually assured destruction with this strategy, as it can put the enemy in death ground if you don't obliterate them with your strike (yeah, there's the long con version but that's another story). That being said, here's the "where it hurts question": what did you think of Azula's move in "The Crossroads of Destiny", hitting Aang in the avatar state? On divide and conquer: there's multiple interpretations/approaches to that phrase. 1- split a big problem into smaller problems to solve 1a- split your forces into separate units (each with a problem to solve) 2- divide the enemies, i.e. sow dissension between them, make them fight among themselves so you can strike. What is your favorite approach to this strategy among these interpretations and why?
