What do you think about the fact that they have coin purses in the deep, deep future? Pretty amazing that money as a technology of exchange and the aristocracy have persisted. Is it a function of historical trends repeating themselves? Did humanity have a Star Trek Future phase and was their Resource Based Economy scrapped in the Butlerian Jihad?

Woah. Thatโ€™s clever.

What do you think is involved in the Freman Possession Trials? Presumeably the fremen think of possession in terms of demonic / evil spirits as opposed to subverting memory patterns. Jessica seemed confident that Alia would not fool the trials. Is it because the overwhelming possessing personality that abominations suffer from is so blatant even a lay person will detect it if they look? Or maybe the trial was actually inserted into the culture by the missionaria protectiva and it teaches the clues to look for even if one doesn't understand why those clues are relevant.

Hi teacher, I was wondering if the โ€œFremen Law for those possessedโ€ was mentioned in the past two books or was it something introduced in COD. Also, does this law refer to any other kind of possessions or only to abominations? Which leads to wonder if there has been any other abominations before Alia. Is it like a known thing among the cultures in the Duneverse (Duniverse?) ? Speaking about possessions, in one of our past book clubs you mentioned that you had thought about an Exorcist book club. What happened to that? I was very excited about the idea horror book club. Although, a 2001 book club sounds also very exciting. Shameless suggestion: sci-fi + horror = Cosmic Horror (Lovecraft?).

One chapter starts with governments *if they endure* tend to aristocracy. The Dune universe is literally one. Any comments on that in Dune universe and in our reality?

Observation: There are two characters named Muriz in the book. Earlier we saw the Muriz that was Assan Tariq's father, and now we meet with the Muriz that is Palimbasha's girlfriend. We'll never know, of course, but the question always lurks in the back of my mind as to whether that was an accident when the book went to the publisher and escaped notice.

What is your take on Ghanima inner calm from page 281. 'Ghanima reworked her self-awareness, building the lonely sister, the surviving twin, until it was a believable totality. As she did this, she found the inner world become silent, blanked away from intrusion into her consciousness. It was a side effect she had not expected'. Had she found a small foot hold into holding back the possibility of abomination? I kind of took it to mean she was stepping out of the shadow of the colossus that was her and Leto's other lives knowledge, and by forcing her own changes, altering her view of this event, she also altered how she integrated those memories of prior lives.
