1 Minute Workout: Legato
Added 2024-01-17 18:12:09 +0000 UTCHey everyone! I'm hyped to be back with the next instalment of the " 1 Min Workout" series, where I provide you guys fun, short workouts focussed on a specific guitar technique. This time we're focusing on the glory of legato!
Like last time, I've structured this exercise in a "5 levels" format with legato licks of increasing difficulty; starting with basic 1 string pedal-point legato patterns and going right through to some insane 3 note-per-string stretchy scale runs!
Good luck and don't forget to share your progress with everyone in the Discord server!

2024-11-11 11:58:28 +0000 UTCI like the hybrid picking at the end. Once I realized you were hybrid picking at the end, it made it much easier to play at faster tempos.

2024-09-10 23:07:48 +0000 UTCBradley, these backing tracks are killer! How do you write this stuff? The level-five rhythm guitar part is insane! I want to learn how to play. More importantly, I want to write rhythm parts that sound this damn good!

2024-04-30 18:24:23 +0000 UTCthis exercise is falsely advertised, it says 1-minute but I've been stuck on it for over 2 weeks!!!! on a serious note, this workout is excellent. I've been drilling it for over 2 weeks and I've seen massive improvements in myself. I can do level 4 at full speed but not yet mastered it at that speed.

2024-03-12 21:30:53 +0000 UTCIsn’t that the whole point of this exercise? Play to the level where you need to develop and drill the legato exercise at that level until you’ve got it down.

2024-01-19 15:49:10 +0000 UTCI agree with your point. I shall rethink my past statement. I guess I am used to formats from other instructors and that is maybe what is holding me back. Like your video on bursting (picking speed builder). That is a technique that not many instructors teach as you mentioned...but then again, that was the technique that got me out of my speed rut. Thanks for everything. Your lessons are great.

2024-01-18 07:27:41 +0000 UTCHey Matt cheers for the feedback! I do my best to capture as many different ability levels as possible, which is why I like to often do these "levels" formats. But I occasionally do exercises focussed at a particular level, yes, and will take this feedback for future - cheers! And as for what mentioned about hitting a wall at the harder levels, doesn't that just show that that's where you need to be spending time to practice?? The idea of these isn't to be able to just waltz through them with no problems, you're MEANT to get stuck at some point! What you mentioned with practicing parts slower in GP before playing them to the backing track at full speed is the perfect strategy. Thanks for the input, appreciate it!

2024-01-17 20:06:52 +0000 UTCI know you kind of addressed this. I might be asking for too much as you are already offering great content. Instead of starting easy and getting way harder and faster near the end, are there plans to make 1 minute workouts for specific levels of playing? The start stuff is too easy and near the end I have to slow the tempo down. It gets frustrating to only play certain parts in the loop because of my skill level. I hope that makes sense. I guess I can slow down the fast parts in GP.
