10 Levels Of Legato
Added 2025-03-07 18:17:24 +0000 UTCLegato! Often overshadowed and neglected in favor of its sweep-y and alternate-y brethren, spending time on your legato is so incredibly important in order to properly develop your left hand strength and dexterity.
So we're pulling no punches today in this hardcore legato workout of increasing difficulty; starting with the most basic licks possible and finishing with some of the most ridiculous legato acrobatics I can muster.
I'm gonna be baking this essential workout into the core Guitar School Roadmap, so I wanna see everybody having a crack at this. Let me know how far you can get!
Good luck and don't forget to share your progress with everyone in the Discord server!

In Level 2! How come 'only downstrokes' or 'outside picking' but not also use inside picking? I find these kind of Legato's exceptionally tricky - for example the beginning of the second solo of Mr. Crowley - and I created a habit of inside picking but can't reach the speed. But to me inside picking seems most intuitive and efficient? Thank you for your content, btw!

When it comes to struggling with rhythms by far the best solution is to listen to the passage over and over with a metronome on so you can internalize it. The better you know something in your head then the easier it is to play!
