Yeah, at this point in the show they very much feel like a couple that has this highly romanticized version of what it’d be like to date this other person despite not spending all that much time getting to know each other in person. It’s like they said in season one. It’s like they’re on date 8 physically but like date 2 getting to know each other-wise.

Tbh for me I just want more friend interactions between them, less stuff about feelings and relationships and just fun shenanigans and bonding 😭 I feel like we barely got any of that so their romance to me feels like it’s based off nothing essentially

When I was watching them originally my friends and I would discuss how the early episodes were characterized with them pining for each other, first him for her, and then her for him. But it was also them kind of sabotaging each other's love life and lying about how much they cared for each other. The storylines were early on about how they couldn't be genuine for each other and how they couldn't stop obsessing over each other. That's why when it was time for them to make the relationship a reality, it had feelings that they never had a moment of honesty with each other until now. And to my friends and I, that felt off, that you start from a place of hiding your feelings and not opening up until the moment you start seeing each other, despite having years, in Ross' case and at least a year for Rachel, of interacting with one another. I felt like if they had started with more honest talks about how they couldn't see each other just then or that the timing was off because of circumstances, and then they got together, the relationship would've felt more grounded and wholesome to begin with.

Yes, I'm with you on a few of the friends going on their own adventures like Chandler and Phoebe or Joey and Phoobe. Those adventures are a lot of fun to watch. Chandler and Joey's bromance is so sweet. I'm still not a fan of Ross and Rachel as a couple. I love them separately but not together.

2025-01-19 09:48:54 +0000 UTCim so glad it made you laugh 😊 yeah i agree!! the only difference with it tho is that its a relationship with two main characters not a main character and guest star, so I do expect to see bonding moments with them as we see with all the other characters, in a non romantic sense i mean 😂 im a big believer in romance developing from friendship so its hard for me to believe they fell in love when we hardly saw them spending any friend time together if that makes sense

2025-01-19 09:44:15 +0000 UTCyesss!! i really want to see Monica happy and if thats with richard then so be it but i could never date someone i knew as a kid/my friends parents because thats WILD 😂 also im so glad you agree with me about ross and rachel!! while i was editing i was a bit worried it will spark up all the ross defenders again haha but i feel like for me personally I just can't feel it yet and i want some more bonding moments for them so badly 😩 im hoping the closer i get to the end of season 2 they give the audience some but if not im holding out for season 3 😅

I love them all, and who my current favorite character is can change depending on the season, but overall, those two take the top spots for me. I also love Joey and Chandler’s friendship. 🥹 That scene with Joey hugging Chandler at the end is so sweet and sad. I think your analysis of them was really accurate. Joey is a big softie, very lovable and open. He can be really dense (haha) but he cares a lot about his friends and he shows it. Chandler has emotional attachment and abandonment issues from his childhood. Like you pointed out, he wants love and connection but has a hard time expressing it and believing someone could love and value him. Which contributes to his struggles in relationships, particularly romantic ones. This is a comedy and most everything is going to be wrapped in crazy humor, but it is actually pretty sad. Staying on your analysis of characters, I agree about Ross and Rachel’s dynamic from what we’ve seen so far. They have really great physical chemistry, but their relationship has not started on very stable ground. We shall see how it goes!

It's not the age gap, since she's over 25 and age gaps wouldn't be that much of a bad thing at this point. It's the fact that he knew her as a child that makes it odd. You also nailed why Ross and Rachel can be a pairing not everyone expects. They haven't had enough bonding moments prior to this. Not every relationship needs those bonding moments, but I feel Ross and Rachel probably did need it, since their characters are built differently without much in common besides the friend group. I ship them myself, but I also think more people would love them if they bonded more in season 1 and had more natural wholesome scenes like the laundry episode.
