I actually like the Chandler and Janice stuff here. Chandler is such a rookie at long-term relationships that it’s kind of nice to see his approach was to just be honest with her about his thought process rather than getting defensive, blaming her, or even just walking away. Chandler has always been the one of the six to lead with how his feelings in a relationship instead of playing games or pretending.

Yeah I really liked that it was only Ross and no one else going along with it!! Really reaffirmed that it was just a him issue instead of an actual issue! Definitely an interesting topic for an episode ahahaha

IcedQuokka

Yeah it’s super random imo 😂😂 glad it only lasted one ep ahaha

IcedQuokka

Wait really??? That’s so wild wtf ahahahah

Also gotta consider... he just doesn't want his kid to get made fun of by other kids, and while a boy shouldn't be made fun of for playing with a Barbie, the sad fact is he will be. At that time especially... he'd be tormented if he was still playing with stuff like that once he's old enough to play with other boys.

There are some storylines during all seasons that are a product of the time and the barbie was one of them. But the barbie is actually a very positive example, I believe it was here to question those norms and not reaffirm them, because of how the episode ended. I imagine many people watched the episode at that time, agreeing with Ross and thinking like him. And the end sort of made them consider it more. Which is what you want from a show like Friends at those times. Had they had every character agreeing with the barbie from the start, then the people watching who thought Ben shouldn't be playing with it would have felt dismissed and wouldn't have given it attention. But by giving them Ross' reaction to relate to and having Ross challenge that perception he has, viewers can also do that along with him. The other reason I think it made sense for Ross to react like that, is what we know of how he was when he was a kid himself. He was likely a very sensitive child who was somewhat different from the popular kids, and even now his hobbies and love for dinosaurs are at times seen as not manly enough. So he teaches Ben what has been taught to him as a young boy in hopes that Ben won't have his struggles, without seeing that what has been taught to him wasn't necessarily right.

From what I’ve heard the writers of the show have come out and said the stalker storyline is the one storyline they regret doing. I don’t know the details further than that. Personally I think it is also the worst storyline from the entire show. It’s just so weird and really doesn’t make any sense

Courtney cox who plays Monica actually married phoebes stalker in real life. They have a child together but got divorced a few years ago

Joey breaking his arm was actually written into this episode as him jumping off the bed and falling down. In the previous episode when joey and chandler were fighting over the chair, Matt Le Blanc jumped into the chair and dislocated his shoulder. That’s why he actually wears the sling this episode
