Alan & Jono's Watching/Reading List: June 2023

Alan:

Hello Heroes!

June has been a bit insane, as we were prepping a shoot (done last week!) shuttling kids to summer camps, and getting rained on almost constantly, because what even is weather anymore now that the climate is on fire? Our garden is thriving though, so that’s nice?

What I’m reading!

What I’m watching!

What I’m playing!

And…

Watch Movies! (And television, and read books, and play video games)

Jono:

Hi everyone! This month I've been catching up on the entire series of Ted Lasso, from beginning to end. It's definitely in my top three favorite shows now! So wise, so sweet, so funny. I'm also enjoying The Bad Batch from the Star Wars universe.

I'm reading Radical Love by Zachary Levi. I've always enjoyed him as an actor, but I'm really digging him as a human being, especially with this book. Such a marvelous look at loving yourself and others wholeheartedly.

What have you been watching and reading this month?

Just finished watching Barry which was fantastic. So much love for Bill Hader. Playing Control which I got on. Whim, pretty interesting game and finished reading Mexican Gothic which I highly recommend!

Absolutely love The Bad Batch. In my opinion it pairs well with your lesson about the four personality types. Also delighted to see Mended Light did a Clone Wars episode!

I love the Bad Batch! It looks like it would be just a kid show but it's gotva great plot and ties in so well with other shows. I'm watching the last season of The Good Place while reading Michael Schur's book How To Be Perfect. The show got me interested enough to dip a toe into ethics and moral philosophy but I decided I should probably start with a light-hearted primer before jumping into the Nietzsche end of the pool.

OMG The Bad Batch coming to CT? Please don't joke...it is a series... It's sooo good, either way nice choice! oh, and before I forget xD I know Falsh is close to Flashpoint. But you missed the mark by a dot, a country and genre. Granted they both do crimefighting. But well, connect, respect, protect! :P

I'm almost at the end of my Rick Riordan marathon. Just finished the Trials of Apollo last week and starting his newest. Alan, I'm definitely picking up that pitching book. The life of a novelist (and wannabe screenwriter, though maybe not with the strike) isn't that glamorous either.

Severance is fantastic! Highly recommend! And Elemental was delightful (though Alan felt a little called out by the water characters who cry all the time!) 😭😂

Lately I’ve been reading Traces of Two Pasts, it’s a sort of prequel to and bridge between Final Fantasy 7 Remake and FF7 Rebirth, and The Filmmaker’s Handbook, which I have found to be very informative. Since finishing Ted Lasso and Shrinking, I might watch Severance and Mandolorian S3. Secret Invasion will be somewhere in there too, along with some anime here and there. For movies, I’m seeing Indy 5 tomorrow and I’m ready to be disappointed and excited to be wrong. Also saw You Hurt My Feelings recently, highly recommend, and The Flash, which was fine…, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which was okay. Excited to hopefully catch Transformers Rise of the Beasts and Elemental before they leave theaters and rewatch John Wick 4 now that I finally got my steelbook. When it comes to games, it’s all Final Fantasy XVI! Never been so immersed in a Final Fantasy right out the gate like this. There’s also Diablo 4 and Marvel Snap taking my attention at times too. Might even be starting up a Borderlands 3 run with some friends, too many games! At least there’s not much interesting me until Starfield in September.
