DIRECTOR'S CUT: Therapist Reacts to COCO

Coco shows how forgiveness and acceptance can bring healing, not just to one person, but to generations.

Licensed therapist Jonathan Decker and filmmaker Alan Seawright talk about intergenerational trauma, grief and loss, and what it takes to heal relationships as seen in Pixar's Coco. They also talk about feeling like you don't fit in, family and tradition, the incredible animation, and yes, they both shed some tears. Of course. It's Pixar. Don't try to tell us you don't cry too when Miguel and Mama Coco sing "Remember Me" at the end of the movie.

I freaking love Coco. I watched it 8 times in one week once. Haha.

I think this is the first episode in which I have cried more than Alan. And it's the second time I've watched it (first time watching Director's Cut, though). This time it hit even harder because my grandfather passed away from dementia since I last watched this episode. Jono speaking about the elders really got me. Thank you for this content.

I believe the chorizo didn't make it in the YouTube version? I have a false memory of Jono talking about Alzheimer's and music. That is a thing, isn't it? That music helps counter cognitive decline? Especially songs from childhood.
