Licensed therapist Jonathan Decker and filmmaker Alan Seawright take a look at the love triangle in Titanic to see if Rose's love interests were actually a good fit for her. As you get to know someone in a relationship, they'll reveal their character to you, but how can you tell early on? Rose DeWitt-Bukater only knew Jack Dawson for a few short days, and they came from very different backgrounds. Rose and Cal Hockley had known each other longer, and came from similar backgrounds, but compatibility is a lot more than that. Jonathan shares some tips for assessing compatibility, picking the right partner, and building a relationship on a strong foundation.
And Alan geeks out about James Cameron's awesomeness, the incredible performances from Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Billy Zane, and Kathy Bates, and how making the boat a character was sheer cinematic genius.

I’ve never watched Titanic, but I am from Chippewa Falls and I was shocked when I heard my hometown! I’ll have to start telling people I’m from where Jack Dawson in Titanic is.

2024-05-12 19:22:58 +0000 UTCI finally got around to watching this. I could not bring myself to watch it because I absolutely cannot stand Titanic. Titanic is to me as the Star Wars prequel films are to Alan. But that’s ok. Sand is rough and coarse and it gets everywhere. I understand! But with Titanic I just could not get into anyone’s character. The only reason I knew Jack and Roses’s names was that they kept shouting each other’s names throughout the middle act. I think I wanted more poignant moments, like the “Nearer My God” being played by the musicians. I feel like it was wasted by the nonsense of Billy Zane running around with a gun. Anyhooooo…. I DID enjoy the analysis on compatibility. Some genuinely good stuff. I always enjoy watching Jono and Alan and their insights. Thanks guys for getting me through this one.
