DIRECTOR'S CUT: Villain Therapy: WENWU from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

What can help people actually change? And make lasting change?

Licensed therapist Jonathan Decker and filmmaker Alan Seawright take a look at Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings to see what we can learn from the villain, Shang-Chi's dad, Wenwu (Tony Leung). As far as villains go, he's one of the best in a recent movie, and gives us a lot to think about with his relationships with his kids and his wife, his motivation to change, and then slipping back into old habits. We take a look at the problem with changing for someone else, the damage when we lash out in anger or hold on to fear, and the awesome Jackie Chan style action sequences!

This movie is so underrated. More people should watch it. I am so glad you did this episode. Yes, the Eragon film is Terrible with a capitol T, what is your issue with the books. They were written by a teenager for young adults. Epic journey, fascinating concepts, interesting characters and sometimes insightful. The bus scene. The build up to the fantastical had to happen. If the protagonist did some Kung Fu his best friend would have reacted with a "wow." Instead we get get the needed "WTF."

When talking about the kick-cute and the music where Alan talks about him being immersed in her world, this is also reflected in their clothing. Her clothes blend perfectly with the background while he is a sharp contrast in white. When they leave together later, you can see his pants are a different colour as a sign of him taking on her influence
