YOU Greenlight a movie!
Added 2024-04-18 17:01:00 +0000 UTCHere are the three fabulous short film options! (Watch our full pitches for each in the video in the previous post for more details and excitement!)
Unrealized - A coming of age comedy about super-powered young adults in an ordinary world. How do they cope with their unrealized potential, and life not working out the way they'd always planned?
MeetU - A Romantic Black-Comedy about 2 people trying to find love using CyranØ, an AI-powered dating app that "optimizes" all your interactions with your romantic interests. Leading to even more bland, meaningless dates than you're already getting from the apps.
Ashes to Ashes - A road-trip dramedy about a middle-aged failure to launch, and his strained relationship with his mother, as they attempt to scatter the ashes of the father/husband, and brother/son. Can they succeed in a seemingly simple task? Will they finally learn and grow into a healthy adult relationship? Can you get the smell of vomit out of a 1993 Chevy Silverado with Febreeze and Jack Daniels?
Watch the video in the previous post for more details about each of these pitches, then please vote below, and remember to tune in the afternoon (US Pacific time) of Wednesday April 24th for the announcement!

For everyone who is bummed about Unrealized not making the cut - if you like reading, try the Simon Snow Trilogy (yes, it even has the vampire the chosen one tries to kill)

2024-04-29 21:22:36 +0000 UTCThis should have been a Ranked Choice Voting poll. :-)

2024-04-26 18:32:45 +0000 UTCThanks for making this comment, TrashPandaKitty, it resonates a great deal with me as someone who also submitted one of the ideas being voted on. Honestly, I agree with letting the chips fall where they made, since Alan and Jono’s approach to all three ideas sounds great and it just means a lot that ideas shared by me and others in this community are treated with such respect.

2024-04-24 13:38:40 +0000 UTCDangit, I want both Unrealized and MeetU! I love how inspired Alan got.

2024-04-23 23:57:53 +0000 UTCIf it were 1-2% of a difference, a runoff might make sense, but this seems decisive as of now.

2024-04-23 19:02:07 +0000 UTCI had a hard decision between ashes to ashes and Unrealized, I second the runoff poll

2024-04-23 18:16:24 +0000 UTCI get the runoff idea. But as a person who suggested one of the ideas in the ‘final 3’, I think we should let whoever wins, win. I think ALL of the ideas submitted have awesome potential. They are all fantastic ideas. And just because one wins, does not mean that others can’t, or won’t be made, or are lesser ideas if they aren’t made. They’re all awesome ideas, and the three chosen to be voted on are all great in their own right or they wouldn’t be being voted on. I personally love the idea of us looking at all of the ideas and ultimately choosing one to be made. Unrealized is such a fantastic idea. I love how the unrealized potential of each character plays into their personalities as they try to ultimately find fulfillment in a world they’re trying to fit into. Meet U is also an awesome idea. In this day and age of online dating who can’t see themselves in unfulfilling online engagements with what feels like, and maybe is only scripted situations? And Ashes to Ashes. Damn, who can’t see themselves trying to come to terms with the death of loved ones while becoming fully actualized people with their sanity still mildly intact while traversing a black comedy of errors? It’s all very human. It’s all very real. Maybe it’s easier for me to say as one who wrote an idea being voted on, but let the chips fall where they may. It will never change how good, how real, or how fantastic any of these ideas are. They’re all beyond fantastic or we wouldn’t be voting on them to begin with. Either way we all win because all of the ideas presented are winners in my eyes. The creativity of the people here is beyond astounding and I’m just happy to be here. And whatever is ultimately made will be awesome.

2024-04-23 00:57:44 +0000 UTCI think the top 2 should have a separate poll to get the most accurate understanding of everyone's preferences. Effectively becoming a 'Single Transferrable Vote' model. Like as things are now it's clear MeetU is losing, but do the MeetU voters prefer Ashes to Ashes or Unrealized? Because if you add the 23% vote share to either of the other options, they'd win by a landslide. Cheers.

2024-04-22 20:41:32 +0000 UTCThis was definitely a tough choice for me, because I like the concepts behind MeetU and Ashes to Ashes equally well! Honestly, if either one of those got made first I'd be very happy. (To my mind, MeetU has the potential to be absolutely hilarious - in a dark and dystopian kinda way, which I'm all about. However, I also think that Ashes to Ashes has the potential to give viewers a nearly perfect blend of good therapy and good storytelling, if that makes sense? Decisions, decisions...)

2024-04-22 19:26:16 +0000 UTCAshes to Ashes sounds even better if you know Alan. Seems like a very personal movie for him, so there goes my vote
Nacho Franco
2024-04-21 15:46:17 +0000 UTCSuch a tough choice! And I second the idea of doing a runoff poll (says the guy who didn't vote for either of the the two front-runners)
Bryan Hughes
2024-04-20 04:37:54 +0000 UTCIf they stay so close they should do another pole just with Unrealized and Ashes to Ashes
Imogen Heiden
2024-04-19 19:49:58 +0000 UTCThis was not an easy choice at all. I feel like the 1st option is really fun, but I don't know what are the VFX implications and the potential cost, so I did not choose it because of that. I know the team wants to explore more complex post-production ideas in the future, so I say, absolutely keep this one in your back pocket for when the studio has a tiny bit more budget and would be able to take on such a project. The second one is really nice for the small studio format. I feel like it's possible to do this one with limited budget and locations/costumes/makeup and all, and it's definitely a strong choice too. I almost chose it. That being said, when I saw the 3rd one, I couldn't resist. The potential for complexity of character development and touching storyline is really really appealing. I love the insertion of humor in drama. A Little Miss Sunshine about grief. I'm in!

2024-04-19 17:35:34 +0000 UTCHonestly, they all sound watchable and fun. I would say MeetU first choice, Unrealized second, Ashes to Ashes third. But I will 100% watch any of them.
Manic Thiccsy Dream Girl
2024-04-19 16:56:45 +0000 UTCI wanna see them all! But I’m anxious rn and need some fun comedy, so I voted Ashes to Ashes
Lauren Hubers
2024-04-19 14:23:36 +0000 UTCYou guys, the choice is so difficult. How am I supposed to choose when you pitched bangers!?

2024-04-19 11:36:27 +0000 UTCAshes to Ashes has film festival potential.

2024-04-19 04:27:50 +0000 UTCThey're all so close as of right now 😲.

2024-04-19 02:13:52 +0000 UTCI landed on MeetU, because I wanted the other two to be longer than 20 minutes 😬 I seriously couldn’t choose outside of that because they are all great.
Jimmy Danielle
2024-04-19 01:38:35 +0000 UTCI think 'Unrealized' would help a lot of people. 'MeetU' sounds like some dark fun, I enjoyed some of Black Mirrors offerings. 'Ashes to Ashes' sounds like a great mix of feelings and fun. This is a real tough choice.
Drug Princess
2024-04-18 22:14:45 +0000 UTCThis was such a great idea!
Jimmy Danielle
2024-04-18 21:56:53 +0000 UTCOhhh, this is so hard. I love the Black Mirror vibes of MeetU, but Ashes to Ashes sounds like a comedy that would be both relatable to me and people I know, and also like it would make me cry, which is always welcome. Decisions, decisions!!
Kambria
2024-04-18 21:04:27 +0000 UTCThese were the two I was struggling between as well. Ashes to Ashes hits closer home though and I'd like to see what they come up with in the filming challenges and locations. All great options though!!!
Cyn Hampton
2024-04-18 20:37:36 +0000 UTCI chose “unrealized” because the premise interests me, and the “not everything in life turning out like you expected” hits hard. But “Ashes to Ashes” is a good comedy premise

2024-04-18 19:38:27 +0000 UTCI’ve shared this story on discord more than once, but I still love telling it again whenever I have the opportunity. My great grandfather was a huge Frank Sinatra fan. He and his wife would go to the clubs and dance and listen to the man himself sing. It is because of my papa’s love for Frank Sinatra that I am a fan. When Papa was still around, once a week I would go to his house and just sit with him. I was in college so I would bring my school books with me and I would pull up Sinatra on my phone and we would listen and he would sing along. When he passed, I brought my collection of Frank Sinatra CDs to the funeral home and ask the staff if they could put them on their stereo. They had a multi disc stereo, and the collection I bought had four discs and over 100 songs. My great grandfather’s viewing kicked off with “That’s Life.” The entire family whirled toward me, expressions clearly saying “really???” I held up my hands and through laughing tears, said “I had nothing to do with it, that was all Papa!” No one will ever convince me that was not Papa working his magic from the other side and letting us know he was okay.

2024-04-18 19:06:56 +0000 UTCThe struggle of which to choose is SO real! Can we just say let's do all three, we're just voting on which one gets done first???
Lydia Hartzler
2024-04-18 18:53:44 +0000 UTCAshes to Ashes. I love stories centered around death that still have humor.
Lauren Frey
2024-04-18 18:37:34 +0000 UTCI love the idea of MeetU and I hope it stays on the table for future polls! Ashes to Ashes sounds like it will be a wonderfully emotional story and it's got to have my vote this time!
Rhys
2024-04-18 18:35:17 +0000 UTCLoving the Ashes to Ashes. It hits close to home and I got tingles when I read the pitch. And who doesn't want to watch Alan do something he has never done before. Sounds great to me. :)

2024-04-18 18:19:16 +0000 UTCGive me an 80ft tall granny statue PLEASE! (As I mentioned in the live stream ;) ) I love all of these, it's so hard to choose. The only good thing to know is we can't loose with any of them! They're all such great content!

2024-04-18 18:10:57 +0000 UTCOh no, how do I choose? They all touch special parts of me...
BJ
2024-04-18 18:04:07 +0000 UTCAll of these are fantastic. I’d love to see MeetU, since it’d tie in a little with the current conditions with AI. … it’s a weird thing that I could go on many rants about but already pervades everything, whether people realize it or not. Man, these were all tough choices. Any of them will be amazing though. Truly look forward to any of them. 💙💙

2024-04-18 17:57:56 +0000 UTCI also agree that I want all three! Although, I’m a fantasy/sci-fi nerd, so I’m slightly leaning towards the first two.

2024-04-18 17:47:29 +0000 UTCI did the same thing!! I didn’t realize there was a video, so I was going off the short synopsis. 😂

2024-04-18 17:46:10 +0000 UTCThis is so cool to see unfold! It really means a lot to now be able to witness how much you are valuing the different ideas and skillsets that come from this community. Thanks Alan and Jono! Also, for anyone voting here, there’s another post with a full pitch video that explains each of these options in much greater detail. So check that out before making your choice! ☺️

2024-04-18 17:29:19 +0000 UTCOk, I want to see all three. But I'm going to vote for the one that's going to make you stretch.
