Alan & Jono's Watching/Reading List: September 2023

Alan:

Hello Heroes!

September! It’s still warm, the trees up in the mountains are starting to change color (don’t come to Utah, it’s ugly here), there were books read and movies watched, and schemes hatched!

What I’m reading!

What I’m watching!

What I’m playing!

And…

Watch Movies! (And television, and read books, and play video games)

Jono:

I just caught A Haunting in Venice with Alan, Corinne, David, and Emily. It was fabulous! Probably my favorite of Kenneth Branagh's Poirot movies. Spooky and perfect for Halloween. I'm getting very into Ahsoka on Disney+; I love Star Wars shows as much as (more than?) I love the movies! Right now I'm reading Good Morning, I Love You by Dr. Shauna Shapiro, which offers mindfulness exercises and practices for self-compassion. It's helping me on my continued journey of self-love and self-acceptance.

What have you been watching and reading this month?

I was a bit disapointed by "a Hunting in Venice". They use so many thriller thropes, the jumpscares doesn't even made me jump. And I thought, unfortunatly, they gave us too many clues with the filmaking (my whole gang wasn't surprised by the revelations at the end). What did you think about it?

Ahsoka & Wheel of Time are my jam right now. I am going way out of my comfort zone reading a historical fantasy horror titled Those Across the River by Christopher Buehlman. Wish me luck...and no nightmares 😰i'm a wuss

Also, I am a community college professor - so, congrats on coming back to school @CydneeBee! I LOVE Thomas Frank (College Info Geek) website and YouTube. He has stuff for college students, professionals, and literally anyone who wants to be productive and successful. He even has videos, tips, and methods for Creators (Alan, Jono, and Team) since that’s what he and his team are. It’s tough getting back into school. I think his ideas are helpful. I also like Draw It To Know It website for bio, A&P, and health professions, specifically. You have to pay a little for access, but you could go through and make all the graphic organizers (notes) in a few months and then cancel the subscription if you want. At least you’d have summary sheets to study from.

100% a word (as per Merriam-Webster stick-to-itiveness).

Roger Rabbit has SUCH A HISTORY when you look into the Richard Williams studio that did the animation. The whole saga of Thief And The Cobbler is absolutely bonkers. Richard's refusal to compromise on quality was both his legend and his downfall.

I am watching Ahsoka too. I love seeing the Rebels characters in live action. Ezra does not bounce around as much as he did in the cartoon, but he still dodges most attacks aimed his way. Good stuff.

I just finished reading Grit by Angela Duckworth. Holy cow! I have started to praise my children more for there hard work and stick-to-it-tivness (I know it's not a word, but it should be). I have also been reading Anatomy books, as I started back at school at 42...
