DIRECTOR'S CUT: Psychology of an Actor: David Dastmalchian Part 2

How does an actor get into the psychology of their character?

Licensed therapist Jonathan Decker and filmmaker Alan Seawright are once again joined by special guest, David Dastmalchian, to continue his acting story. In this Psychology of an Actor series, they ask David how his mental health journey shapes his acting journey. Together, they react to a movie David wrote and starred in, All Creatures Here Below, as well as other acting roles, such as Suicide Squad and The Boogeyman. Be sure to check out David’s latest performance in Late Night with the Devil in theaters now!

I don't know how I missed this one during my great binge watch. I loved the parting message that finding mental health care professionals takes work. It can be so hard to find someone who you click with in the way that is needed. Loved both of the videos with Dave! He seems like such a great guy!

SaucyJTD

We mentioned it in the video. We really enjoyed it!

Wil Wheaton just posted about a new movie David is in. Late Night With the Devil. Wil gave it a 4/5.

I came to comment the same thing, as soon as he got on screen I was like, That’s David! This character is gonna steal the scenes! And I was right lol

Adam Shockley

I’m watching David in one of my favorite series, The Rookie!!! It’s a joy watching him work and put funny jokes in a situation that is quite dark.

Hannah Rose 🥀

It’s a beautiful and powerful film. NOT an easy/light watch, but well worth it!

Alan Seawright

Really fun Karen Gillan-related announcement coming… very soon…

Alan Seawright

LNWtD was SO GOOD! I loved it!

Alan Seawright

Wow, that was intensely honest.

All creatures down below reminds me of “Tokyo god father’s “ only difference is the homeless guys find the baby and tries to find it’s mother I absolutely recommend watching this movie hands down

Rena Nice

I love people who are not only great actors but are also not afraid to discuss really difficult topics like suicide and the benefits of getting therapy for it. I hope that he comes back to the show for a 3rd time!

I used to think self love was a concept spouted by sheltered liars and that it was SO trite. I felt allergic to the concept. it took until my early 40's to realize how truly crucial and difficult and complicated it really is. Thanks David, for your vulnerability!

Nova Villmark

David AND dog scritches!? Thank you! I love your plethora of examples of feeling your emotions and being ok with it.

Anna Murray

What an interesting person. Really appreciate you all doing a part 2 with David.

Nell Campbell

David is the goat! I can’t wait to watch all his movies.

Kannibal Kory

I watched Jumanji a few weeks ago, and yes, definite mood whiplash between those two movies! They'd make a very weird double feature.

Cinema Therapy

It will be linked in the description on YouTube when it comes out tomorrow.

Cinema Therapy

For mood whiplash, first watch Karen Gillam in Jumanji and then this.

Anders

Can you link to the first episode in the description? I missed it, and I can check the back catalog, but a link would be easier. :)

just me

OH MY GOD YES! I love David so much I can't wait to see Late Night with the Devil! I needed this part two today thank you so much for making my week the best <3

Sammie

I have been counting the minutes for this one. A lot of David’s comments in the last one touched my heart and really stuck with me. It’s incredible that, that wouldn’t have happened without cinema therapy. Thanks guys

MrBogglo
