Whether it’s hilarity or insight or Grace toward the people around you, there’s something *every* single time. As a tiny example from this vid: not accepting the cards with things you choose not to discuss publicly AND not brushing off the why. 🙌🏻🔥🙌🏻🔥🙌🏻🔥 If you have an accountability kink, I have a boundaries kink 😂 ty for constantly showing us ways (big and small) that we can better show up for ourselves 🤍 — not bc you’re ‘preaching’ but just by being yourself. (Also, thank you for being that guy who thought to bring Alan cereal and burritos. 🩵 Such a loving thing to do!)

2024-07-16 13:16:37 +0000 UTCI just wanted to mention that, before the discussion about Alan not accepting compliments, I was actually noticing how much better he is being about that, since the CT beginnings. Back when, even in the absence of a compliment, Alan would find an opening to diminish himself. (I know how that gets born and that it isn’t even on purpose.) As someone who thinks he’s the shiz, that was always painful to see. Seeing instances of that (over time) become further apart, less severe, and even being replaced by acceptance (sometimes!) has been so so so great to see. I’m only a couple years older, but it makes the mom-heart in me beam for Alan! 😊

There are exactly three compliments I do trust and will accept, and it depends heavily on who says them and when they say it. Otherwise, I just respond with a skeptical “Really? It wasn't until this year that I had someone believe in me unconditionally for the first time. 25 years old and hoping I can have the same retrospective some day.

I read somewhere that if this doesn't come naturally to you, all you really have to say in response is, "Thank you, I appreciate that." Or some variation thereof. That's my go-to response now. I am proud of my ideas, I love following up on them, but the pure joy and excitement you have as a kid is definitely missing.
