Jono's Summer Movie Roundup!

Summer movie roundup! It's time for my one-sentence reviews of everything I've seen this summer!

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE- FINAL RECKONING: Overlong but has marvelous tension and a staggering payoff.

LILO & STITCH: Safe and bland. Has some good moments, but it's all been done better.

KARATE KID- LEGENDS: Formulaic and predictable, but surprisingly enjoyable due to excellent character work all around, especially by (checks notes)... Joshua Jackson?

THE LIFE OF CHUCK: Tom Hiddleston dances his socks off in Mike Flanagan's adaptation of Stephen King's uplifting short story; it has pacing and structure issues, but also takes risks and really makes you feel things.

BALLERINA: It's John Wick meets Black Widow, more or less, with plenty of bombastic carnage, a passable plot, and a sympathetic turn from Ana de Armas.

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON: A four-star remake of a five-star classic; stumbles comedically but holds its own dramatically.

THE PHOENICIAN SCHEME: Wes Anderson-lite. Plenty of quirky humor but not much else. Boring.

MATERIALISTS: Gentle and lovely exploration of growing past shallowness and what love really means.

28 YEARS LATER: Combines the sensibilities of Boyle's own films 28 Days Later and Slumdog Millionaire, delivering terrifying thrills and surprising pathos in my favorite of the series so far.

ELIO: Despite BTS drama, the final product is delightful and deserves a much wider audience from those who claim to want more originality at the cinema.

F1: Brad Pitt charms, Hans Zimmer's score slaps, and director Joseph Kosinski brings the you-are-there magic of his Top Gun: Maverick to the racetrack with such heart that you won't care how by-the-numbers it is.

MEGAN 2.0: I loved the first film, but this is a Terminator 2 story delivered with Terminator Genysis quality.

JURASSIC WORLD: REBIRTH. Great actors elevate weak characters and, while the script disappoints, director Gareth Edwards delivers mounting terror and believable visuals in ways we've not seen in this franchise since Spielberg.

SUPERMAN: Hopeful, bright, fun, and well-paced, the perfect casting and sincere heroics will win you over. My favorite film so far.

I'm planning to hop on camera to talk about some of these, so what questions do you have for me? What are your thoughts on any of these?

I would like to connect with my kids on some characters I loved so thinking about the Superman movie after reading through this

Michelle

Seeing a lot of love for Superman but I haven't watched any beyond the originals because how can you beat those? But maybe I'll give this one a try, all I've heard about the previous remakes is how awful they are or to dark. Is this one okay for kids?
