Thoughts on Patreon's new service fee

Hey patrons,

As you might have heard, Patreon is making some changes to fees on pledges.

We’re trying to figure out exactly what that means, but as far as we can tell, it looks like they’re now asking patrons to pay for (part of?) the credit card and transaction fees associated with your pledge. That amount previously came out of the amount that creators would get, so in some ways this is good for MinuteEarth. But it would happen by charging you all a slightly higher amount than you signed up for - and that stinks. The changes won’t actually happen until December 18, so we have a little while to figure out what to do. Let us know how we can make it better for you.

Whether it’s making new, lower pledge levels (like ~$0.64 and ~$1.60) so that you can keep paying the same amount per video ($1 or $2, in this case), or something else, we’d like to hear your input and figure out a solution that works. Patreon is still one of the best ways to support us, so before you leave in protest, talk to us!

You can also check out Patreon’s FAQ page here and their blog post about the change here (scroll down for the update).

Thanks, today, as always, for your support.

Alex
