Random Lore Magic Pt. 1

Magic is a natural force utilized by many beings across the world. Some have a greater affinity for magic than others. It is focused in a metaphysical wellspring within the body. When contained within the body, it often—but not always—takes the form of a core, matrix, or ring. Those who cannot utilize magic often do not have this metaphysical wellspring.

It is a point of debate if magic and magical ability is genetic or something that is granted through other means. Although in some magically inclined species like the wendigo and druids patterns do often emerge with children of mages often sharing the same magical discipline as one of their parents. Although if this is because of genetics or parental pressure and upbringing is unknown. 

Magic is also released naturally by the world in the form of ambient mana. The release of ambient mana and its concentration can have massive effects on the environment. High levels of ambient magic leads to the manifestation of magic storms and anomalies. Magically rich areas even become so extremely dangerous that it can manifest monsters. There are some places on Jupitris with permanent magical storms making travel over large distances impossible in some regions.

The lowest level of the magic casters are the wizards. These individuals can use some magic but often with difficulty and constant study and practice. They are usually not able to master any higher tiered magic and can only use simple spells within a discipline.

Next is the Mage, these individuals have an affinity to one of the Magic Disciplines and can, with time and practice, ascend to the highest levels of magecraft within that discipline.

The sage, this is a person of legend that is largely considered a work of fiction. This individual has the ability to master multiple magic disciplines to the same level as any mage in their affinity. Myths of Sages creating new disciplines or even copying sorcery is in part what makes this thought to be a work of fiction.

The sorcerer is outside of the normal magic casters and is incapable of learning magic. Instead they have a bloodline magic called sorcery which is passed down through generations. Sorcery is comparable in power to magic but is innate and unique to the bloodline. It is unique from Natural Magic also known as Animal Magic simply because it was at one point either granted to the bloodline by a True or is the result of a Sage or similarly powerful magic caster.

The arcanist is not a traditional magic caster and some in fact do not consider them to be magic casters at all. The arcanist will form a contract with a being of the Higher Planes and carry out that entity's will. The being will become known as a patron and give access to the energies of the Higher Planes it resides. The arcanist will only retain their power as long as they carry out the will of the patron.
