NEW VIDEO: Why Doesn't All Thunder Sound The Same?

Hi @repentino! Most lightning is branched, and those crackles you sometimes hear are the sounds from smaller branches coming off the main channel - since they're closer to you than the main channel, the sound reaches you first, and since they're smaller, they crackle rather than clap (kind of like the sound static electricity makes, which is the same as thunder, just on a MUCH smaller scale). Thanks for watching! -Kate

but what about the thunders that sound like it's cracking a lot for like a second or two and suddenly we get a massive boom?
