We’re Switching to Monthly Billing - But Basically Nothing’s Changing

Hey patrons!

On February 1st, we’ll be switching from a “pay per video” to “monthly” billing model here on Patreon. There are more details below, but here’s the TL;DR: basically you’ll keep paying the amount you’re accustomed to, just without the small fluctuations you might have seen in the past.

(Presumably) FAQs

Why is MinuteEarth switching to monthly?

We’ve heard from patrons that they prefer the monthly model that most other creators on Patreon are already using. And having a consistent Patreon income stream lets us budget projects in advance. It will also give us the flexibility to go wild and make 10 videos in a month or try a totally new kind of video without worrying about how it’ll affect our patrons’ pledge amounts.

What does this mean for me?

With Patreon’s help, we’ve calculated that your new monthly pledge will be equal to the monthly amount you’ve been paying on average for the last year. So the amount you’re charged monthly will be what you’re accustomed to, just without the small fluctuations you might have seen in the past. Patreon will be sending you an email with confirmation of your monthly pledge amount, and information about how to change your pledge if you choose.

So basically, nothing’s changing!

What if I currently have a monthly cap on pledges?

If you have a monthly cap on your pledge, then your new monthly payment won’t be higher than that.

Is anything else changing?

Nope! You will all continue to receive early access to our videos and other patron-exclusive posts. But we do hope making it easier to be a patron will grow our community here on Patreon, allow us to devote more time to Patron-specific projects, and tell even more great stories about our awesome planet.

I still have more questions!

Please leave a comment on this post, message us on Patreon, or email me at julian@minuteearth.com if you have any questions. Thanks again for being awesome and supporting our work!
