A Few Road Signs to Follow...

There's a few things you should know about me and my writing. Just a few. Rules of the road, say. Nothing big. Consider it managing expectations. Or making sure our 'hello' doesn't become a sudden goodbye...

There's a few things I don't do. Very few -- I try never to say never, to be "good, giving, and game" as Dan Savage says -- but they're there and you should know them:

• I don't depict underaged sexuality: This is not negotiable, and this is not 'conditional.' I don't depict minors in sexual situations -- and by minor, I mean 'age of citizenship in the United States of America,' not 'the age of consent.' The hard limit I work with is 18, and wherever possible I hold to 19 or older. I know that in most states the age of consent is below 18. I know that in a lot of countries the age of consent and depiction is under 18. I respect that. And I know there's a lot of people out there who are into it, and a lot of erotic fan-fic that's about it, and I'm not here to kink-shame any of you. But I don't do it. Period.
• I'm not likely to write snuff or vore: I'm a writer of erotic fiction, and I work in dark themes much of the time. I have and will write stories that include dubious consent (dubcon), nonconsent (noncon), and rape. I have written incest in fiction. I have written... well, a lot of things. But I don't find murder sexy. I don't find dismemberment sexy. I don't find graphic descriptions of people being eaten sexy. If you do? Hey, cool. But it's going to be a hard sell to get me to write it.
• Maybe don't expect me to write pro-hate crime fiction: I won't say there won't be misogyny or racism in my fiction -- they're both part of our world and, whether we like it or not, a part of our sexual understanding. But if I touch on those themes, I'd expect the person doing the hating to come off badly.
• My writing passes the Harkness Test: Hey -- I get it. There are sexy dragons out there. (I'm not kidding when I say that.) MonsterGirl is a thing for a reason. But for me? Sapience is a part of the package deal, and I'm not really looking to write beastiality. The Harkness Test is a good guideline, so I stick to that.
• I don't write self-fic (or cyber or etc.): You could say that everything I write has some of me in it. That's true of most writers, I think. That said? I'm not here to write "Kimberly Dale Boinks Golden Bomber's Stunt Doubles." Or role play it. Which is fine -- there's so much better stuff out there ready to boink Golden Bomber's Stunt Doubles.
• I'm in a committed and loving relationship and not looking to diversify: Just the sort of thing that's a good idea to stick somewhere public. But thanks!
• I always retain veto rights and publication rights (unless you pay me a work for hire rate): If you want to commission something from me there's a few ways (or going to be a few ways) to do that. But, I'll always retain the right to... you know, not do that, and I'll retain the right to publish the work -- electronically or otherwise. (Though I won't out the name of a commissioner without their permission). If you want a written piece that you can use however you like and I won't publish without your permission? It's possible, but it's expensive. I don't unlace my copyright protection for roses and a promise.

I want to do as little negative stuff as possible -- here and elsewhere, so I won't spend my time shouting "NO!" if I can help it. I like saying "yes." Yes is fun and leads to interesting things and unusual ice cream flavors. So, hopefully we've gotten this out of the way? Yay.
