Beta 9 "Wizardry" Early Prerelease (X4)
Added 2019-07-30 05:09:47 +0000 UTCBeta 9 X4 is ready, with both tweaks and some new content.
Among other fixes and small tweaks, here are the highlights:
- Stat dumps should now exclude info that might give away knowledge you shouldn't have at the time (which might otherwise be revealed in the final scoresheet)
- A bunch of new hover units were added, so there will be more types to choose from, and you'll be more likely to find them
- Crit-immune robots are now only core immune, meaning you can crit off their parts now (this change might be reversed later depending on the effect, but it's been added for experimentation now--try those crit builds!)
- Using the Enter key now automatically applies the remaining manual hack autocomplete and autoconfirms, rather than confirming only what's been typed so far
- High-level Phase Shifters have been nerfed
X4 saves are not compatible with previous releases, so consider first finishing up any in-progress run.
On Steam, Beta 9 X4 is located on the new beta branch "EvenMoreWizardry," or if you don't have Steam and need the DRM-free version, send me an email at gridsagegames@gmail.com (I've proactively emailed the link to those who've already signed up).
For Steam players, remember that if you switch to the new branch to play, and then later switch back to an old/main branch to play again, you may lose some newer Beta 9 meta data that doesn't apply in an older version.

But the text does say that they "appear out of the shadows." I can see it being startling for sure, though it's not any different from what have elsewhere. I wanted to avoid doing that since it's 0b10 rather than caves, where it makes more sense, but people really do need an immediate and direct way to learn about those mechanics...

2019-08-20 10:43:14 +0000 UTCIt was simply OP. The progression was set ages ago before there was any real play data, and there's no reason for a single not-so-rare part to be quite that good. The impetus for the change at this time was that it nerfs Trackers.

2019-08-19 11:52:21 +0000 UTCWondering about the phase shifter nerf: is it aimed at making it less powerful for the player, or at making targeting computers less valuable against extended enemies? Or both? I realized after watching one of your extended streams with all the melee analysis suites how important targeting is -- none of the other processors or utilities that strengthen your attack matter if your attacks don't hit your target. :)
