Trigger Eurorack with Ableton.

Pretty simple but useful.

can't see the ins, or the some of the upper details on the external audio instrument in live, but perhaps they're not important. think somehow the way you configured this filming, it's not showing the mousey and menus and such. i'm not following how the drum rack is producing audio that is coming back in and able to be affected, given that all i thought it was doing was triggleing a cv/gate sample. btw that kick is ffn ridiculous.

evolvetek

Yeah. I’m ready to try that es8

Jamie Lidell

Well, aside from the lack of computer, the hardware is only running gen~ patches, but with Max and something like the ES8 or ES9, you're not limited to gen~, you've got all of Max to play with and integrate.

Ned Rush

Would there be an advantage using the hardware vs the expert sleepers and a patch ? Aside from The lack of computer

Jamie Lidell

Well, I've only gone down gen this last year. Started in Jitter gen and am now deep in gen~. I was scared but its not so bad. The maths is all the same as normal msp stuff. I've made basic delays to start with and am now obsessing over a new gen~ patch I've made thats gonna replace all my old record~ buffer~ groove~ patches which I never thought I'd be able to achieve. So I'm pleased with my progress. That said due to these unprecedented times I do spend alot of time sitting around doing nothing so its keeping me occupied. I recommend the Rebel Tech youtube for some good gen~ starter stuff.

Ned Rush

I’m rusty with max tho. Let alone gen. How is it to get the gen skills going?

Jamie Lidell

It's all just getting so exciting isn't it...

Ned Rush

Ooo. Not seen this properly. I've heard the name Oopsy being thrown around the Max circuit but didn't look into anything about it. https://forum.electro-smith.com/t/meet-oopsy-daisy-object-for-max-msp-gen/944https://forum.electro-smith.com/t/meet-oopsy-daisy-object-for-max-msp-gen/944

Ned Rush

Seen this too I assume https://www.perfectcircuit.com/electrosmith-daisy-patch.html?gclid=CjwKCAiAsOmABhAwEiwAEBR0ZlkFttAg9lEY7klyL35gffgZDG2Pf9lWtaopbnhE6zFW_vNtewLIARoCyUUQAvD_BwE

Jamie Lidell

With a quantizer it’s quite musical like :)

Jamie Lidell

by the way, have you seen this? https://www.rebeltech.org/product/owl-modular/ considering picking one up. You can run your own gen~ patches on it. Pretty far out.

Ned Rush

I getcha. I think the bucket object in Max might be a good starting point, although thats working with just numbers. With signals I guess you could use a sah~ and a delay~ then repeat the chain to get that signal echo type vibe.

Ned Rush

That’s sweet. Never knew it had that in it. Like the Turing machine. I was thinking about this. https://youtu.be/avdA_ufDhDI

Jamie Lidell

So the only shift register I've tried is the one on the Distings, which does cvs and triggers. You mean something like this? https://youtu.be/3sSr0X3vaDI random cvs with looping...?

Ned Rush

Would be a tasty addition to the eurorack world. Transposing and thinning the data.. could get pretty juicy

Jamie Lidell

I'm gonna take the cv looper challenge though.

Ned Rush

I'm afraid I wasn't keeping an eye on the latency whilst I was shooting the video, but I don't have any memory of it being noticeable. I'll spend some time wrapping my head around shift registry. Considering your acclaimed history of looping in Max then I reckon you could already build a looper for cv, just swap out the voice for cv coming in on a dc coupled interface and you're good. Actually, you make the video :) x (have you looked at karma~ in the Max package browser?)

Ned Rush

Could you build a max shift register using cv generated from eurorack ? A cv recorder would be cool. Some kind of cv looper maybe

Jamie Lidell

How’s the latency ?

Jamie Lidell

love the vid! no latency problems with round trip from abes->CV->rack->audio->abes ?

Etienne Stehelin

Like it! But is this the same as using the CV Triggers device in CV Tools? Im yet to explore it all properly.

Kilmo

No. Fun idea though. I was considering for a while buying a pc gaming controller to control visuals in MaxMSP. Havent dunit.

Ned Rush

Have you ever set up a game controller to adjust an instruments parameters?
