As you can see, my new collaborative hot sauce is now available, but how did we get here?
I've joined forces with Bristol-based independent hot sauce fanatic and friend James Haskell aka Haskell's Hot Sauce, and Bristol coffee roaster Lost Horizon Coffee to bring you a Turkish and Cypriot inspired sauce giving a nod to my own heritage and bringing banging Brazilian coffee vibes which will liven up any meal time.
But how did this come about!?
In November I met up with J, a seasoned hot sauce (no pun intended!) for a pint to discuss the idea I had. He then started building a flavour profile. He found that on top of loving coffee, I also really enjoyed a middle eastern spice called Sumac which is made from dried berries.
We then combined several other ingredients during the test phase, and added dried and home-grown Reaper Chilies. Along with a huge industrial portion of coffee, which shared some of the flavour profiles of other ingredients when all combined, we realised this was actually a tasty sauce that wasn't going to blow your head off, although the kick is rather pleasant!
It was Mrs Needles who came up with the name ''Jim Reaper'', she does work in marketing after all!
We trialled the first batch a month ago at one of our Bristol Scratch Café nights. The feedback was favourable, so decided to bottle up our first batch, which is what is available now (see photos).
Yes a totally random post I know, but I'm so stoked to share this with you!
