Sinafay was everything a daughter of Lolth should be; cunning, ambitious, and gifted in the ways of sorcery but she carried one fatal flaw, empathy. She pitied the slaves,hesitated before executions, and sometimes let surface dwellers escape when she could have claimed glory instead. Whispers spread that Sinafay’s heart had been captured by her servant, a deep gnome slave. Her mother dismissed it at first as mere sabotage and slander, until one night she caught them together.

The punishment was swift and cruel. The gnome was tortured, beheaded, and displayed as a warning to all. Sinafay was forced to watch, obey her mother’s command and take ownership of the deed or share her lover’s fate. Her mother demanded that she embrace true drow cruelty, to bury her compassion and sinful deviancy beneath blood and obedience. Behind closed doors, Sinafay was disciplined.

But none met her mother’s expectations. Sinafay refused to become a monster. She abandoned her old life and fled to the surface, seeking a new beginning...
