I am so sorry to hear your going through this and hope you get to a safe space soon! I am in property management, and in our area there are a lot of deals going on now due to corona lowering the number of renters. I would also recommend backing up and keeping anything in the way of records: texts, emails, etc in case you need them later. Finding a safe spot is the priority, but depending on where you live you do have renter's rights that are being violated. That could help you a lot if any issues from this situation pop up in the future.

Like everyone else, I am horrified to hear this. I don't know what state you live in but most have tenant/landlord kaws to protect renters from being thrown into the streets without at least 30 days' notice. You can call your local courthouse for the laws in your state.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Check the laws in your state regarding evictions. Normally, your roommate would have to give you the tenant 30 days vacate the premises & the notice would need to be notarized. I hope this helps, best of luck to you

And depending on where you live, you definitely don't have to leave with just few days notice. And it's a pandemic! Please take all the time you need. I do not know where you live, but I believe that there are laws on evicting people without notice. In the US we have agencies such as Legal Aid to assist people with low income. Perhaps you can check for resources. Even without a lease, you still have some rights.

I’m so sorry to hear that :/ I used to work for a law office and I was in charge of evictions. In order to even be evicted, you’d have to give due process (and evidence of doing so, hence, a five day notice. which can’t be given just because..) You need to actually have a reason and right now, it seems like they don’t have a reason to kick you out. Especially during a Pandemic, where laws actually have changed to keep people from becoming homeless during a pandemic. (My sister has my spot now, so she tells me all about the laws that protect renters.) Basically, if your name is on the lease, they can’t do anything. The landlord would have to. Unless they are the landlord, then that /might/ be a bit difficult. But right now, landlords can’t evict anyone unless they have a GREAT excuse, so I would definitely take that person to court if need be. I’m a renter and some lady started the front of the apartment building I live next to on fire back in June and my landlady still couldn’t get her out legally. You’re more than welcome to contact me though if you have any questions!!! Because they have little to no grounds of kicking you out.
