“Yes, I ll be fine.” Replied Anabel “I just need some time to myself.”
“Alright then. I gotta get going myself. See you soon.”
“Bye Scott.”
Scott got into his car and drove off. Anabel meanwhile walked away from the Battle Tower, to the place where she first met “him”. It had hardly been five minutes since he had left with his friends, heading to the Battle Pyramid for the last of the Battle Frontier challenge, but Anabel was already missing him. She had wished she had just said something to him, but she was too shy to say anything to him. Soon, she had reached the small river where they made met. Sitting at the spot where they had sat together with his favourite Pokemon on her lap, she watched the sunset as she continued thinking about him. Anabel looked at her hand, remembering the handshake between them before he had left. Holding her hand with her other hand she quietly whispered to herself:
“…Satoshi.”
Unexpectedly, she felt someone pat her on the back with great force, followed by a familiar female voice. “HEY THERE ANABEL!” said the voice. Anabel turned round, slightly cross that her “moment” had been ruined.
“Greta! I wish you wouldn’t do that!” said Anabel to her long time friend.
“Hey, not my fault!” Replied Greta. “Was the only I could get your attention! I did shout your name, but you seemed lost in thought about something.”
“Oh, then I apologise.”
“Nah, that’s alright. So, what’s on your mind?”
“Oh, just things…”
“Just things? Come on, how long have I known ya Anabel? When you re lost in thought about something, it not usually “just things”.”
…
“You know me too well you know.”
“Sure do!”
Anabel and Greta had known each other for years, ever since elementary. They had been best friends ever since. They could tell each other anything and they would understand each other. Their Pokemon Trainer skills got them as far as Frontier Brains, a position considered greater then that of a Gym Leader, even rivalling the likes of the Elite Four. They each motivated each other throughout the Trainer Part of their lifes and that was what helped them get to the title of Frontier Brains. Many believe that they both process a bright future, and could easily become the two best Trainers in Kanto, maybe even the world. As Greta sat next to her best friend, Anabel explained to her about Satoshi, her battles with him and how she felt about him.
“Hehheh, Satoshi huh?“ said Greta. “That brings back memories of our battle.”
“Yes, he’s certainly is a good trainer?!
“Good? The boy beat in our first battle! That kid’s got talent.”
“Yes, he does.”
“Still, when I heard you beat him in your first battle together, I didn’t think he d be able to beat you, what with your Telepathy and whatnot.”
“Yes, but he managed to beat me in our rematch. That was certainly a great battle.”
“Yeah, but I thought him taking out the lights like that was kinda cheating a bit. You couldn’t see where his Pikachu was coming from.”
“Yes, but a battle’s a battle’s I suppose.”
“True…”
…
“So, you didn’t tell him how you felt?” asked Greta.
“No, I was too shy.” Replied Anabel.
“Whaaaat? How will anyone you fancy know how you feel if you don’t spit it out?”
“I know, but my heart was pounding so much, the words just couldn’t come out.”
“Right then, lets practice then!”
“Huh?”
Greta stood up.
“Come on, get up and we can see if we can work on that shyness of yours!”
“Erm, okay.”
“Right, pretend I m Satoshi and we re outside the Battle Tower, okay?”
“I m not sure…” Anabel said unsure.
“It ll be fine! Lets start!”
Greta coughed.
“Gee Anabel, that was one great battle we had!” said Greta, impersonating Satoshi.
“Yes, it was…” replied Anabel.
“I have to get going now, maybe someday we can have another rematch!”
“Yes, someday…”
The two then shacked hands.
“Come on Anabel.” Whispered Greta.
“Erm, Satoshi?”
“Yes?”
“There’s something I d like to tell you..”
“Go on.”
Anabel’s heart began pounding again. However, since this was her friend doing it with her, she felt more relaxed this time.
“…I, like you.”
“Really? Gee, what a coincidence…”
Greta stepped forward towards Anabel.
“Because I really like you too!”
Greta suddenly tripped and felt onto Anabel. The two girls ended up falling into the river.
“Oh my god, I am so sorry Anabel. I did not mean for that to…”
“Its okay, I know you didn’t.”
Greta stood up and helped Anabel out of the river. Anabel was slightly limping on her right foot.
“Are you okay?” asked Greta.
“I m alright. I might of sprained my foot, but I m otherwise fine.”
It was starting to get dark and it had begun to rain.
“Can you walk?” asked Greta.
“Not very well.”
“Here, get up on my back.”
“Are you sure?”
“Course I m sure! It’s the least I can do for getting you wet. Besides, with all the training I do, I m pretty strong.”
Anabel got onto Greta’s back and Greta carried her back to her house, while running to get out of the rain.
“I must say, you are pretty strong.”
“Yeah, remember when I beat up all those bullies that picked on you at school back in the day?”
“I know, that got you into a lot of trouble because of that.”
“Well, I wasn’t going to let them get away with bullying my best friend you know!”
Anabel was picked on a lot at school. Those were hard times for Anabel, as the other kids would point and make fun at her because she looked like a boy. She could not help the way she looked. She preferred to have her hair short and never felt comfortable wearing skirts or dresses. She used to dread going to school a lot. However, there was a silver lining that came from it, as it was how she became friends with Greta. Greta one day watched Anabel get picked on from afar. She thought it was wrong the way Anabel was being treated. Once Anabel was down on her knees and crying, Greta snapped. She ran towards a bully and punched him clean in the face. The other bullies stood in awe before running away, afraid of what Greta might do to them.
“Are you alright?” asked Greta.
Anabel had a frightened look on her, too scared to say anything.
“Its alright now. Those bullies are gone.”
Just then, Anabel held Greta tightly, still crying, but not because of the bullies, but because someone her age actually cared about her.
“Thank you.” Said Anabel.
“Yup, those bullies had it coming to them!” said Greta, as she was still running with Anabel on her back. “I made sure they never called you a boy again!”
“You know, they did sometimes call you a boy.” Said Anabel.
“Yeah, but I work out though! Dollies and fluffy things weren’t ever my thing!”
“And it never bothered you when you got into trouble about of it?”
“Course not! Protecting you was worth it for someone as cute as you.”
“Cute?” Anabel blushed.
“Ah gezz, did that come out? Sorry if it sounded corny…”
“No no, it was fine.”
“Alright then.”
Anabel held Greta tightly as she continued running. She placed her head on Greta’s neck, closed her eyes and silently whispered to herself.
“…No one has ever said I was cute to me before…”
“Did you say something?” asked Greta.
“No, its nothing…”
Soon after, the two had reached Anabel’s house. After getting out of their wet clothes and changing into their nightclothes, they sat by the fireplace, both with a cup of hot chocolate in hand.
“I hope those spare night clothes are okay.”
“Yeah, they re fine. I just hope its okay me staying the night.”
“Hey, would I let you go back to the dojo in those wet clothes while it was still raing?”
“True.”
…
“So, I wonder how far Satoshi has gotten right now?” wondered Greta.
“Knowing his burning admission, I m sure he and his friend have gotten far towards Brandon.”
“Heh, he need a ton of skill if he wants to beat Brandon! Not even us or the other Frontier Brain have ever beaten him!
“Yes, though I do hope he doesn’t get out his Village People music for Satoshi’s battle like he did during your battle.” Joked Anabel.
“Yeah!” laughed Greta. “I just could not stop laughing at that! It was so horrendous!”
Both girls laughed and laughed at the memory. When they stopped, it went silent, with only the sound of the fire blazing.
“So, you think I m cute?” asked Anabel.
“I-it was just-just something that slipped out!” replied an embarrassed Greta.
“Oh?” said Anabel as she crept towards her. “My telepathy says otherwise.”
“Oh really?”
“Yes. So, what about me to you find cute?”
“Well erm, you have a pretty face…”
“Yes, go on.”
Anabel crept closer.
“Err, your shyness and polite nature is very cute…
“Really?”
Anabel crept closer. At this point, she was very close to Greta’s face. Greta’s heart was beating a thousand times a second.
“And…and…and.” That was all Greta could say. Before she knew it, Anabel moved closer. However, she tripped and fell onto Greta. Once on top of Greta, her lips were in contact with Greta’s lips. Something about this felt right to Anabel and made her feel good. She proceeded with kissing Greta’s wet, but soft lips. Greta could not believe what was happening. The feelings going on in her heart, the sensations within her body, it was all so much for her. Anabel paused.
“I-is this alright?” asked Greta.
“I can sense your feelings Greta. You can’t hide them from me.
Such actions were alien to Anabel, but it felt right to do them with Greta. She was after all her best friend, her soul mate and now it seemed, her lover. Deep down inside of her, she wanted to express herself to Greta in such a way. She played out the fantasies in her head countless times; it could almost be called an obsession. Greta had a tear in her eye.
“Oh Anabel, you re more then just cute, you re beautiful! I ve been in love with you for so long, I cannot imagine my life without you. I wanted to tell you for such a long time, but I did not want to risk losing you. Guess I was more shy then you were.”
Anabel smiled.
“I love you. You are my light that gives me strength, hope and courage.”
“I love you too. You are my darkness that gives me pride, lust and pleasure.”
Greta moved forward to connect her lips with Anabel’s and they kissed once more.
One night of activities later
Anabel awoke in her bed. She lend up to notice Greta getting dressed.
“Morning.” She said to her.
“Morning.” She replied back.
“Do you have to go so soon?” asked Anabel.
“I gotta get back to the dojo before Scott has a go at me. You know what hes like if we re late for our battles.”
“Yes, he can be quite strict sometimes.”
“I ll be back here the next time I can come.”
“Don’t keep me waiting.”
Greta walked over to Anabel and gave her one more kiss.
“I won’t.”
Greta left the room to leave. Anabel quickly got dressed and once dressed, she opened her bedroom windows with the sun shining in her eyes so brightly. She noticed Greta from outside smiling while waving to her. She waved back to her. Greta then began the lengthy walk back to her dojo. Anabel closed her eyes as she whispered to herself.
“Greta, my Light...”
A short time later one night, Greta was getting ready of bed. After brushing her teeth, she heard a sound from outside the dojo. She went to her bedroom window. She noticed the moon was full that night, as well as a figure from outside. It moved closer as the light from Greta’s room slowly revealed whom it was. Once she could see who it was, she notice the figure had a shoulder bad with her, one fit for a sleepover. The figure smiled at Greta as Greta smiled while her heart began beating at a fast pase. She closed her eyes and whispered to herself:
“Anabel, my Darkness…
The End
