Dragons and aviators formed lifelong bonds, often codified by rituals such as getting matching tattoos. The dragons, their tattoos being drawn directly on their scales, never could figure out what the big deal was. Ulysses, in particular, said he would get a tattoo on every scale if he could, and was quite sure he didn't see what Cadet Fox was whinging on about.
