Come Hither...
Added 2017-05-01 13:19:28 +0000 UTCWhen I first started out painting the women of the Corps, I had just come from painting dames on the sides of tanks, and was still very much in that mode. When I showed the subjects of this piece, Captain Lana King, and her dragon Hector, the finished work, she was bemused and a little grateful that no one would recognize her from this cartoonish likeness. Hector, however, was very upset at his likeness, complaining that he didn't look like that at all, and that I had failed to capture his power and majesty in "that silly doodle." I learned then that dragons don't really "get" the concept of caricature, and as having a several tonne dragon miffed at you is not an experience soon forgotten, my style changed in a hurry after that.
