Major Patreon Change Proposal—Please Read And Vote!
Added 2019-12-13 04:35:25 +0000 UTCI’ve always been a huge fan of quality, hand-drawn Disney-style animation. Looking around, I don’t see anybody doing that in NSFW art (correct me if I’m wrong). There are some awesome CGI animators who put character and expressiveness into SFM and blender animation. And there are animators like Zone doing a more Ren & Stimpy-style well. But I’ve been dreaming of seeing Ariel or Hollie Wood having fluidly, expressively-animated sex for decades now, and seeing only stiff, minimally-animated characters moving around a frame. So, I guess I’m gonna have to do it myself.
I did some animation of Darkwing Duck back in high school, that was show-quality, but ink only. I did it in Disney Animation Studio in Windows 3.1, drawing with a fuckin’ mouse, and 10 seconds took me all summer. And I don’t have any illusions about how long it might take to do, say, a 5-second clip at 15-20fps. But I do know that my drawing program, Procreate, just came out with animation functionality, and so there’s never been a better chance than now.
So, what am I thinking of doing with this Patreon? Well, I’m definitely continuing Jackanapes. I’m having fun drawing our heroes and thinking of sticky situations for them to get in and out of. And I’ll still offer commissions from time to time— heck, I might even do animation commissions for people who have a lot of money burning a hole in their pockets, once I get the hang of it. But, I want to do animation rather than the monthly fan art contests and monthly high-tier supporter pinups, which would mean some big changes to the structure of the Patreon. Essentially, there will still be fan art, but it will be animated, chosen by me, and slower to come out.
This change, if it happens, is still 1-3 months away. I need to figure out what kind of rewards I can realistically offer— keep in mind, extra drawings would be a no-go, as 5 seconds of animation = 75-100 drawings. I need feedback from you all, whose support I very much value. So PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE let me know what you think. Would you still support me after this change? If you are a higher-tier supporter, what kind of rewards would be enticing-enough to stick around your tier for? If you are a lower tier supporter, what might entice you to a higher tier? I want to emphasize how much better I think my animation will be than the other hand-drawn animated sex out there...

I've been going back and forth on whether or not to comment because I don't want to douse any enthusiasm for a new idea. I came here originally for the Bombshells. I stay at the Benefactor level for the monthly sketches even if I don't always use them. I won't leave if you switch, but unless you're doing Bombshell animation, I'll probably lower my support level to Patron or Season. That said, if you do a Bombshell animation, I'm all on board.

2019-12-13 10:24:40 +0000 UTCI can see doing original characters, but I worry about being stepped on by major studios if characters they developed are incorporated into animated clips, particularly given the sexy nature of your work. I can see the pinups being left alone, as such drawings are so widespread (even if nowhere near your studio-quality work). But animated versions? I would expect a move to squash your work if it is too close to the "official" look.

2019-12-13 08:12:17 +0000 UTCHonestly, I'm here for the pinups etc, not the comic, so I'm unsure if I'd continue my support if it went away. It would depend on the quality of your animations,which is an unknown factor at this point. Considering you're one of the first patreons I subbed to, I'd be willing to support the period it takes to make maybe 2-3 animations, to see how you do it, but if it's not my thing then I'll probably end up jumping ship.

2019-12-13 06:43:34 +0000 UTCI'm double-dolla backa, and prefer the pin-ups. /However/ I would not stop pledging if they became rare or never occurred. I'm unable to go to a higher tier as I pledge $1-$2 for about 50 different creators and am trying to stay within a budget. In short, my opinion is largely irrelevant.
