RE: Trailer Trash 49, Feeling blah.

/// The complete chapter 49. My new longest cha

Comments

The kids would have loved the Digimon Virtual Pets or the Gigapets Fighters (which let you make the Men in Black fight Batman or Randy Savage)

Drew Hoffman

Alicia needs to step up her game hahaha. Waiting for the two of them to get together tbh

Kelan

Town pool lifeguard - her responsibility is her superpower, and she can get young kids to behave...plus lots of chances for her to be interacting in various ways with her "peers", which seems to be her Kryptonite...

Toodles McGhee

Seriously though, Barista

Just Dave

I like Bobby, he seems like a good guy. I also can't wait to see the boys reaction to the gameboys lol they'll be stoked. I'm happy her mom is getting her shit together too. I was feeling pretty bad for her but I was also frustrated because she needs to be there for her daughter and step up for her unborn child. Isn't she pregnant? Pretty sure I read that...but it was a while ago and they haven't mentioned it.

Sgt. Tibs

Let's see if she remembers the housing crash of 08 there was a big movie about it with lots of celebrity cameos or if she sees steave carrol since he was the main star

Thomas McCarty

She talks to someone's dad about investing all her money and he is trying to get her into pets.com or some other 'new tech' and she sees remembers the puppet and is like, Y2K, oh wow. Is there an Amazon? OH, OH, the DG, gotta invest in the dollar.

Just Dave

Or the library

Robert Betts

Fix'd, thanks

FortySixtyFour

I can see her working at a hole in the wall bookstore, or maybe even a Borders or Barnes and Noble

Chriton

At the very least, Elena bought herself a gameboy + Pokémon, and is thus not beholden to not playing it until after Christmas. 2 minutes of effort for Tabby to walk her through a couple trades to land herself an Alakazam. Just an optional headcannon if it’s never explained/disproved in story.

MyOwnLonelySurprise

If she's just playing Pokémon in the evenings to get ahead how did she get an Alakazam which requires trading?

Elivercury

All of the above!! Days at the Safety Plant and evenings and weekends at Taekwondo (Children's classes too!) Buys into a share of Bobby's car....

Thomas Stocks

I remember evening/late night - cruising with my buddies in high school - anywhere from 4 to 6 of us crammed in the seats of whomever was able to borrow the car from their parents - it usually ended up being one friend who had a station wagon, which was good, cause then the 6th guy could chill in the back and the two skinniest of us (after the driver) didn't have to share the front passenger seat. That sucked, cause I was about the 3rd skinniest, but the driver of the other frequently used vehicle - a sedan - who was the 2nd skinniest obviously had to drive, so whenever we used that other car, me and this other dude were practically sitting on each other. N/L Once we collected everyone, we'd cruise around, or sometimes head to the tourist district to watch johns try to find pros and not uc vice. Good times hanging with good friends.

Dashinhi

This may have been a chapter about Blah, but it was definitely not a blah chapter! Excellent writing as always - hits you right in the feels when it has to, but still manages to be a whole lot less tense than that Applebee's scene. I loved the pastiche of scenes and characters! Also, Bobby continues to be a treasure. But was "Tamogatchi" intentional?

Gudy

Safety plant makes sense, because she has plenty of experience, but I can also see her dreading a return to the familiar. I voted for Food Tiger because of all the people you're likely to run into at a grocery store.

Caleb

Waldenbooks!

Mundane

I'm an assistant Taekwondo instructor, so I favor that one. Tabitha will be teaching a kids class with Hanna in it. My wife used to work for Mickey D's, and she wanted me to pick that, but she'll have to do her own vote for it. Damn, now I want ice cream.

Chris Myers

The owner would dismissively (and grudgingly) consent to permit her to demonstrate some kata, and be very surprised when she demonstrates yellow-belt level with no formal training. Her story about how she knew the forms will be squinted at, but ultimately accepted, because, I dunno, Lee is tired of sweeping the dojo himself?

Dashinhi

poll doesnt seem to register my vote; especially when i try to do Other: DotCom Startup entrepreneur (pets.com?) so i went with TKD instructor. I got my blackbelt from Master Hee Il Cho in the '80s, so bit partial to that.

Jerry Isdale

Personally I'd like to see her work as a waitress at Applebee's either that or like a Porter at the Roller Rink. Man I now have a hankering for an butterfinger Mcflurry or something similar. Guess I will have to make it myself at home 😅

Jeanie6754

how would she get the Taekwondo job won't she need qualification? not saying it is bad choice but how will she get the job?. Safety plant might be interesting showing past and future differences but Tabby strikes me as wanting something new. will she bump into her mom were she works?

Nicholas Fabian

I put Lee's because maybe her cousins will be able to get discounted lessons (yeah, yeah, settlement, but Tabitha has to save for the Alphabet IPO), plus she'll get to help them develop more, and it presents the best opportunity for working intimately with a range of child personalities, which will potentially help down the line with Julia. The Julia that Tabby ends up becoming mom to will be a totally different person from the Julia that Tabby knew as an adult.

Dashinhi

I think Shannon should start working at the safety plant. Tabby should go for the taekwondoo or family video. Might give more insight into the other characters. At the very least Sandy and Shannon are due for a conversation about Tabitha and themselves.

mhaj58

As someone who frequents Royal Road...Could her future self who apparently died from an aneurism inflicted on her from her past self be reincarnated and get a job on a monster ranch? It fits in with the Pokemon stuff.

Flying Goat

She could be a tutor or babysitter as well. Taekwondo seems like a fine choice but I doubt she would get hired without getting the qualifications and rank.

Porkopio

I most easily see her working as a librarian’s assistant or would that mirror Stephanie from ACH a little too much?

Peccant

Safety Plant: adult wages and possible patents on the enhancements she knows from the future.

WanderingArchitect

The video store poses a problem - while compatible with the "I know some things from a possible future", it also poses a risk as well of over-sharing, and stating views from the future also might lead down the avenue of being considered a movie critic/reviewer (also potentially problematic.) That and knowledge that video rental places go the way of the dodo in the future, I think she'd potentially avoid. Fast food makes sense if the idea is to up the "will they/won't they" with Bobby, but it's a pretty direct way to do it versus having something happening over time just with the occasional contact/shared friends between the two. Again, future knowledge - the pay is atrocious and wait until she has to explain Karens to everyone. Pass. Safety Plant... oof. There would be a LOT of bad mileage there, with the only advantage of having some idea of how the place works and how to make improvements potentially. This seems like a hard pass from her to not want to go back. Applebee's now has bad memories for her. Pass. Food Lion seems a bit more viable, but only if she's doing something like stocking, getting to move around and be active. But by far, the winner has to be taekwondo - it would keep her active and a way to clear her mind every now and then. She's already been teaching some moves to the kids, and it also helps to improve her self-defense for anything ELSE that comes out of nowhere at her. The only real question is if there's enough business to support a part-time instructor.

farrell1701

Family Video could be interesting. It's obviously a doomed enterprise at this point in time, and she knows it, but she's not looking for a long term career, and I could see her choosing the job specifically for the opportunity to have first shot at grabbing cheap videos on sale down the road.

Kalel

It may be kinda cliché but Tabitha is all about trying to do those typical growing up jobs so I can completely see her trying out restaurant work. There is no way even a shitty manager wouldn't have her in a customer facing position. Line cooks can make for some very colorful characters. I can see Bobby working with her or depending on how long the time skip is, being an old fling she now has to work with who is tired of her future nonsense.

Ope 'scuse me

Not only that but Mrs Mac would help get Tabs the job

Stuart T

Taekwondo sounds interesting, it will also probably equate to her spending more time with her cousins should they attend to this Taekwondo, and i actually really like how you have built the relationships between Tabitha and her cousins. I enjoy reading those parts especially, and being A Taekwondo instrunctor would probably open up pathways for some pretty cool character growth for the boys. Also Kick-ass Tabitha is cool.

Deviant Ranger

I agree with Eammon. I’m curious about her developing her skills as an assistant instructor and also what the plant would be like with a different atmosphere.

jmundt33a

A. please no time skip, god i hate time skips. B. Lee's Taekwondo, because that would be fun and she could continue to train with the cousins C. Safety Plant, because i think it would be fun to see and i want her mother to be working there so i go with D. both i cant be the only one that worked 2 part time jobs in high school and did other shit on the side as well. they would only give me so many hours a week.

Eammon_Wright

I have to admit I really liked this character. The development you showed hannah going through was heartbreaking and I loved it and hated it at the same time! Keep up the good work

brett thomas

I feel like the seasonal plant with would actually pay the best

Luckbox

Thanks for the chapter!

Undead Writer

Other: book store worker, or some other little hole in a mall. Normal stuff is whatever, she should work at a 90s place.

Zach

I had to write off the non-local options for a first job as Tabitha wouldn't have a way of reliably getting to Sandboro from where she is without inconveniencing someone. Safety Plant only works because she could carpool with Sandra

FortySixtyFour

Taekwondo dojang seems like the most interesting choice for narrative possibility and the kind of thing she would want to do after being cooped up due to injury for the last few weeks. But. If it's after a timeskip I'm surprised Hot Topic isn't an option on the survey. Easy to write off any weird things you say, future knowledge is fun but unlikely to break anything like at the plant, and there is a sweet employee discount. Seems like the kind of fun, obviously silly choice she would at least consider.

R.

*Exeggutor, not Eggxecutor

Gemyma

It's weird; I think it SHOULD be Food Lion, but I WANT to read about Lee's.

Zhilbar

I'm torn between the taekwondo instructor and the safety plant worker. Taekwondo because Tabitha deserves to be bad ass and it would fit with her wanting to be more fit and in shape. Saftey plant because it would be interesting to see how her past life/future knowledge would allow her to blow everyone away. Both offer very cool narrative opportunities that I'd love to see explored. Perhaps have her start at the plant and then realize over a few shifts that it feels off working there due to her history, then have her shift to the taekwondo path?

The Dapper Lemon

I'd be interested in seeing a part-time job that ties in with another character, like Sandy at the safety plant or Casey at Family Video (I think she was the one who worked there). It would provide opportunities for Tabitha and that character to interact and strengthen the relationship. If she works at Lee's, that might tie in with the cousins if they start attending there.

Jimbo1023

I could see her getting a part time gig at the library. More computer time too

Montugar

I think that she would want to try something that will challenge her, trying new things in a temporary job to gain better perspective on paths she is unlikely to take.

ziv ronen

I like the idea of her being able to do something close to her old job so she can bust out with some super specific future knowledge like, “oh mr bossman i was giving jen from accounting your D43 form and saw you forgot to itemise your safety pins, ive redone it for you but need you to sign again.”

David Ford

I vote Taekwondo or something like a camp counselor at the community center. Something that shows her being a more normal kid. Plus she is great with younger children. I miss Tabitha and the cousins.

rbg123

Dammit. I was gonna make it extra soul-crushing, too

FortySixtyFour

I'd like if Tabitha got a job in one of her specialties, and thus I wouldn't have to read about how soul-crushing retail jobs are
