Yoo-Hoo!

Busted buttons and bows, the first of our Patron Picks models out this month was Minnie Mouse, chosen by the lovely Nicole. I decided to fit Minnie around the already made Mickey Model in the collection, since they come as a pair and will more likely be printed together. This influenced a lot of decisions with the model like filling in her eyes to match the sketch I based Mickey on. I would have included pupils like in her original image but the models would have looked super weird side by side and they can always be painted on for those who want a more updated version.

For the clean variant I painted Minnie in a black and white colour scheme as a nod to her origin in Steamboat Willie. I used Daler Rowney system 3 acrylics in black and white, which I mixed to create light and dark shades of grey.

The thickness of the paints made it really easy to paint the model and the matt appearance gave her an amazing finish which works really well with the overall colour scheme. I think the models look amazing together, they're definitely two of my new favourites within the collection and I love the colour scheme it just looks awesome.

Mickey was my first Zbrush model and Minnie is now my most recent less than a year later, so they're new fixtures on my desk next to Figaro and Cleo.

For the ornamental variant I used Arteza Metallic's in Space grey and Pearl White for her skin colours and Strawberry Red for her dress. I used Valejo Chrome to paint her ornamental patterns but decided against painting the ornamental's on her dress, I left them plain on Mickey's shorts and I haven't yet found a colour that goes well with Strawberry Red.

I made Minnie's patterns quite small as with Mickey's, and while choosing similar patterns changed them enough to give her her own unique style. I think the finished model turned out really well and works beautifully alongside Mickey, as well as makes a lovely standalone addition to the collection.

So romantic!

For the model collection itself I plan to add the entire Mickey Mouse cast over time. I'm also planning on doing a Steamboat Willie month later in the year, as well as Fantasia Mickey and the infamous broom! 

The mouse ears will now be out at a later date, I've had to put them on hold in order to perfect the headband since PLA isn't very flexible and they're quite uncomfortable to wear. I'll update the page with further info down the line, sorry for the wait!
