015. Pascal

Pascal appears in Disney's 'Tangled' as Rapunzel's pet chameleon. His role in the film is to be Rapunzel's best friend, confidant and self appointed protector. Pascal doesn't speak but communicates through a broad range of facial expressions and body gestures, since he is a chameleon he can change colour, usually to express his mood or to hide.

I've chosen to model the picture above for Pascal as its probably his signature pose and I think it captures his protective and blunt personality quite well, I also just really like the pose and think it'll add some character to the model collection as a whole.

I think getting his expression just right will be the trickiest part to model and texturing his skin will be interesting but overall he's pretty straight forward and I'm quite excited to do this one. Pascal is such a cool and unique character and I think he's gonna look really awesome covered in patterns, I'm also planning on painting one of my models so he is camouflaged against something, which I think will be a really fun little challenge, photo's to come of that towards the end of the month!

• The name "Pascal" comes from the Latin word "paschalis", which translates as (relating to) Easter.
• Pascal is actually based on a real chameleon owned by artist Kellie Lewis. The day the directors were trying to find a name, the animator said she named her chameleon Pascal, so they took the name.
• During the opening to the movie, a small plush green chameleon that closely resembles Pascal is seen on Rapunzel's mobile.
• Pascal for some reason is depicted with fixed eye sockets. Actual chameleons have eye sockets completely independent from their skulls and are therefore mobile.
• Pascal serves a similar role as being a friend and protective sidekick to Rapunzel as Flit did for Pocahontas.
• Due to his small size and green color, Pascal is often miscalled a "frog" by Flynn. Flynn is aware that Pascal is a chameleon, but nevertheless calls him a frog, just to tease. Rapunzel herself mistook him for a frog when they first met.
• A silhouetted Pascal can be seen on one of the medals on the wall of Chief Bogo's office in 'Zootopia'.
• In 'Ralph Breaks the Internet', Pascal can be seen perched atop Rapunzel's paint box in the Disney Princesses' private quarters.
