Winnie the pooh is the iconic honey loving teddy bear from the incredibly popular franchise of the same name. He spends his days going on adventures with his best friend, a boy named Christopher Robin, and all of his other stuffed animal friends, usually on a quest to find honey.
For the model I have to add a nod to Pooh's honey addiction so I'm going to model him holding a honey pot like in the picture above, I also really love the bee sitting on the end of his nose, since they're like his arch nemesis in the stories. I want to add his stuffing bursting out of a split seam on his back, as this happens to him quite often, so I plan to model him sitting for his overall pose. I also want to make his expression a little happier since I think that fits with his personality better.
I'll be starting work on him throughout today so the WIP post for a first look at the model will be out in about a day or so. Character Trivia is below.
- Winnie the pooh creator A.A. Milne wrote the original Pooh stories for his son Christopher Robin Milne.
- All of the animal characters except Owl and Rabbit were inspired by real stuffed toys Christopher had as a child, they are now all on display in the New York Library. Owl and Rabbit were animals that lived near his childhood home.
- Christopher often visited a Canadian Black Bear named Winnipeg at the London Zoo and met a royal swan named Pooh while on vacation. Both of these animals served as inspiration for Winnie the Pooh’s name.
- Winnie the Pooh has been banned in China since 2017 due to being compared to Chinese president Xi Jinping, majorly by the use of internet memes.
- On April 11, 2006, Pooh received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, being the 4th Disney character to receive one after Mickey Mouse, Snow White, and Donald Duck. The star is located on 6834 Hollywood Blvd.
- It is implied Christopher Robin received him on his first birthday, as, in The Many Adventures of Winnie-the-Pooh, Christopher Robin asked if Pooh will stay in the Hundred Acre Wood, even when he's a hundred. Pooh asks "How old will I be?," and Christopher Robin answers, "Ninety-nine."
- In a 1984 comic strip by Don Ferguson, Winnie the Pooh mentions having a grandfather and a cousin named Herkimer, both of whom sneezed every day at two o'clock, a habit Pooh inherited.
- The largest collection of Winnie the Pooh memorabilia consists of 20,000 items, and was achieved by Deb Hoffmann in Wisconsin, as verified on 20 December 2020. She started her collection in 1967.
- In 2002, TV Guide compiled a list of the 50 greatest cartoon characters of all time as part of the magazine's 50th anniversary. Winnie the Pooh was number 27.
- He, Piglet, and Roo are the only animal characters of the franchise who wear clothes. In all three cases, a shirt but no pants.
- Pooh's current voice actor, Jim Cummings, also voices Tigger. In House of Mouse, Pooh never had any lines, which is curious, as his voice actor did multiple voices in the series.
- Pooh's original voice actor, Sterling Holloway, once said that Pooh was his favorite, he was Holloway's final role in a Disney film before dying in 1992.
