011. Cat Yzma

Yzma appears as the main villainess in the Disney animated feature 'The Emperor's New Groove'. She is an evil sorceress who's only goal in the film is to become empress by attempting to kill emperor Kuzko, instead she accidentally turns him into a llama with a potion. Towards the end of the film another potion vial is accidentally broken which changes yzma into a cat,
I've chosen to model the above pose of her holding the potion bottle as I feel this is her most iconic pose. I'm planning on printing the potion vial in transparent resin and also doing a small resin pour to fill up the potion. I'm already practically finished with the model with just a few minor adjustments needed so if all goes well with the test prints the clean version will be out on the page tomorrow. The WIP post will be out shortly and as always I'll keep it updated with my progress as I go. Character Trivia is below.
- Shades of purple in The Emperor's New Groove are almost exclusively reserved for Yzma and her world such as her Secret Lab, and the Palace when she is briefly Empress. The color itself was chosen because it is generally considered the color of madness, as well as royalty. It is also one of the three most common Disney villain colors.
- Yzma is one of the few female Disney Villains to be physically fought in their respective debut films. She is also currently the last female villain to go against a male protagonist.
- When Yzma pours the potion on the cactus, the cactus becomes shaped like a llama, a clear sign that it was llama extract, not poison.
- Unlike most Disney villains who usually wear the same outfits from the beginning to the end of their movies, Yzma consistently changes outfits during her film.
- When Yzma says "Oh, my!" in reply to Pacha's reading of the transformation potions ("Lions; Tigers; Bears"), it referenced the "Lions, Tigers and Bears" chant from The Wizard of Oz.
- Yzma is the only Disney villain to fall from a great height and actually survive.
- Barbara Streisand was originally considered for the role of Yzma prior to Eartha Kitt's casting.
- Her transformation into a cat is plausibly a tribute to her own voice actress, the singer Eartha Kitt, herself often compared to felines for her singular voice and well-known for her portrayal of Catwoman into the 60's TV show Batman.
- Her feline transformation also parodies Disney villain transformations of the past, such as Maleficent turning into a dragon in Sleeping Beauty or Jafar turning into a snake in Aladdin.
