019. Flotsam & Jetsam

Flotsam and Jetsam are a pair of sinister, green moray eels who serve as loyal minions to the Sea Witch Ursula. Despite her amorality, the eels are deeply loved by Ursula, who refers to them as her "babies" or "poopsies". They are dark, mysterious and extremely competent henchmen who never fail to get the job done. When their white eyes combine, it forms a single crystal ball, a portal through which Ursula can spy on the outside world from her lair.

For the model pose I've chosen the picture above as its a really recognizable pose for Flotsam and Jetsam and I love the subtle wicked smile on both of their faces. The fact that they are intertwined also shows how they act with one another and will also act to join both models together nicely. I think the most difficult part of this one will be getting the tails to wrap around each other properly while making the model balance at the same time, but otherwise it should be pretty straightforward once I've got their heads right.

I've already made a start on the model but I'm away for a couple of days for a much needed break  and to finally paint my giant Rucifee from back in January. The wip post and first version will be up on the page as soon as I get back. 

• The eels are named after two different types of shipwrecks. Flotsam is defined as debris in the water that was not deliberately thrown overboard, often as a result from a shipwreck or accident. Jetsam describes debris that was deliberately thrown overboard by a crew of a ship in distress, most often to lighten the ship's load.
• Both Flotsam and Jetsam have heterochromia (two different-colored eyes); Flotsam's right eye and Jetsam's left eye are both yellow, while their magic eyes are both white.
• They do everything as one, speaking in unison, finishing each other's sentences, and entwining their bodies with one another.
• The eels are often cited as one of Disney's darkest henchmen duo's.
• They are also one of the few henchmen from the Disney franchise to actually be killed off at the end of their film.
• Flotsam and Jetsam are unique among most Disney villain minions, as they are competent at everything they do.
• They were voiced by the late Paddi Edwards, who was also the voice of Gozer, the main antagonist of the first Ghostbusters film.
