025. Meeko (Intro)
Added 2023-08-28 00:25:03 +0000 UTCMeeko is Pocahontas' cute and funny raccoon sidekick with a love of food, especially John Smith's biscuits, which he spends half of the movie pursuing.
For his pose I've decided to model him pulling his iconic tough guy pose from the scene where he is making fun of Kocoum while wearing the Native American head dress. I think this is such a good pose for Meeko as it showcases his mischeivious and funny side and it just looks really cool. I also want to capture his cute side so I'm going to model him instead pulling the super happy mouth open face that he always pulls.
I'll be working on Meeko for most of tomorrow so the wip post will be out throughout the day along with a rough idea of when you can expect the first version to be up on the page. There's barely any trivia this time around unfortunately since there's not a lot of info about him other than what we see in the film. As always thanks for subscribing!
- Meeko's name is derived from a character in Wabanaki tribal folklore from Maine, though the mythological Meeko is a squirrel instead of a raccoon. Meeko was originally a powerful bear or wolf that threatened the Wabanaki people until the culture hero Glooscap shrunk him down into a harmless, but still mischievous, form.
- Meeko has the ability to braid hair since raccoons have very dexterous paws in real life.
- It's revealed in the book "Hello, Funny Face" that Pocahontas actually first befriended Meeko when she and Nakoma rescued him from drowning in a river.
