Kintsugi

Hello!

It took some time, but here we go - my first artwork since Japan I think! O:
To be fair, it isn't much, but I had this idea for quite some time. I wanted to reference the japanese repair technique "金継ぎ" because I just love the meaning/philosophy behind that. Basically it's just repairing broken e.g porcelain cups with gold (or other precious metals) instead of glue or other kinds of material. It's done to honor the objects history, rather than just repairing it seamlessly or even replacing it.

I thought this fits Touya really well, since his story is the thing that really formed him into what he is now. I personally don't like the AU of good brother Touya, since it would be a completely different character... I love Dabi because of his flaws and mistakes that makes him him.
The scars are a reminder of what he went through and taking them away would take his character as well And let's be honest, Touya broke a lot of times - he's more seams than person at this point - literally.

Anyways, as you can see this got really pink. I don't really know what to think about that tbh. I changed the overlays quite a bit, because as you can see the flat colors were really beige and monochromatic . Initially I wanted a blue/white theme, but that resulted in very dull colors. He either became grey or yellow, which appeared really sick - and I didn't want that for this piece... so he got a bit pinkish instead haha!
I mentioned before, that I really like this color scheme and I think it fits the mood as well.
Though, I really thought that this would be a piece of cake, because I wouldn't have to draw his scars, this really took a long time because of the gold cracks.
I encountered a few problems along the way which I didn't expect - but it's fine I guess, it just took a bit longer.

The thing I really don't like is, that it looks like the gold is raised instead of sunken into his skin... I just couldn't figure out how to change it, because I needed to be careful with the shadows anyways, because this all looks very fragile and heavy shadows would just look odd.
