Perfect Imperfection

Ok, hear me out! I wanted to post this a week ago, but I liked it SO much, that I kept it on hold. Idk if you notice it too, but sometimes the quality of work dips tremendously, that's mostly because I don't take the time or deem a artwork finished too soon. That doesn't mean I rush things - it's just that you get sort of a tunnel vision.

Even though I absolutely hate that I work on so many different things simultaneously, I guess that's the way to go, because I can rest my eyes from a certain image and come back with a fresh mind.

That being said, every time I opened this file I started with like 30-60 min re-color grading it because it was too saturated or not saturated enough.

The way I work in digital art is with many different effect layers and some of them alter the colors and shadows quite a bit. This results in muddy shadows sometimes and esp. with this, I really didn't want that.

See, I absolutely love the male physique and wide shoulders and a huge back is kinda the signature of that. But I never really have drawn Dabi's back (aside that one or two times) because his scars - or rather the way I draw them specifically - drown a lot of detail and muscles. That's why I had to be super careful with that because I am super proud of the overall pose and Lineart.

Dabi especially is a bit more difficult than other characters... not only because of the detail drowning scars, but because of his basically two skin colored design too. I use heavy shadows and lighting, I know, but the way I shade his skin and scars is very different. What's not enough on his scar tissue, is way too much on his skin. So there is no one way route for me to do that.

All in all,  I am happy that I laid it off for so long, because it's one of the pieces that deserved it!

There will be a print for it for sure, but I'll release it later when posting it on IG too.

Tell me what you think!

I like this one a lot, idk why but it gives me regal vibes with the clothing. The pose and line art are 10/10!! It is very cool to see how the shadows are very heavy in the 5th stage but the transformation to how they look just right for the final picture! πŸ’™β€οΈβ€πŸ”₯
