Episode 234: Nukes Part 1

We sort of continue our Kennedys saga with a visit to the defining technology of the Kennedy administration - the atomic bomb. This episode covers some of the basic science of nuclear weapons and gives you all the information you need to start a nuclear weapons program of your own.

As one of your lady listeners, think I’ll be sitting this one out 😇

Perfectly timed, a neutron shield activated around the convertible combined with a neutron bullet would account for the entry and exit wounds on Kennedy and Connally. The bullet would be bouncing all around fissioning brain and wristbone atoms before escaping when the neutron shield is deactivated. At least that’s my takeaway. You don’t need a magic bullet if you’re armed with physics. 🤯

i guess i'm boned up - half of my chem in high school was radiation and nuclear physics and i used to watch all those history channel docs, the starz show, quantum physics + field theory on opencourseware etc

I used to go on wikipedia to learn about nukes because I am insanepilled

Oh cool, he's the guy who created nukemap (our source for that bit about Little Boy vs Tsar Bomba in lower Manhattan). I'll definitely check him out, though it might be a moment too late to make it onto part 2.

Regarding nuke knowledge: Husband knows about nukes (PhD in aerospace engineering). I convinced my high school I didn't need to take physics, so I know very little.

Since you asked about nuke knowledge, I've published a few papers and a PhD thesis on uranium ore processing. As for weapons/history, Alex Wellerstein has written a lot of interesting stuff about the history of nuclear weapons.
