Everyone wanting to be a media star is such collective insanity. If people were living in bands where they actually had their social needs met as they did for hundreds of thousands of years I don't think you'd see that desire any more. It's as if the alienating forces of technology now consume and then virtualize human reality in a terrifying process of unbecoming. And then natural human drives toward becoming get maladapted toward this accelerating process of unbecoming. I guess one day we'll all be hard drives in sealed vaults. But there should really be no reason why technology must continually power this drive toward nothing. It functions as humans think it ought to.

My favorite Larry King exchange: LARRY: So how was growing up in Minneapolis? PRINCE: Oh, it was good. It's actually a very multicultural place, and – LARRY [way too loud]: NOT A LOT OF BLACKS!

Michael Savage pretending to piss on Allen Ginsberg is the ur-instance of "don't threaten him with a good time"
