Moving a bit quicker. Want to have time to get this done before the end of the month!
So, this dude is intentionally going to do this. Let’s have some options! I’m going to jump right into the story ideas as the “accidentally self-inflicted” requirement is a bit limiting.
I had hoped for “Intentionally inflicted by someone else” and then I’d offer Sylvia or Alien Probe as two of the choices. But, alas.
Onward!
1) Our man, a basement scientist, has discovered that, in an infinite universe, all things are possible. What he’s discovered is that works of fiction can exist in reality, often as alternative dimensions and he’s found a way to travel to them. It is essentially a teleportation platform he calls: The Stage.
Our basement scientist decides to travel to a fictional world populated by anthro animals. Upon his arrival, he finds that this particular universe won’t allow him to… stand out…
2) Our man, a basement scientist, is going through a dry spell with his wife. He discovers her browser history (accidentally, of course) and finds out she’s a furophile! He also finds out she’s bisexual. So, on her birthday, he goes to his basement lab, fires up his experimental transmogriphier to give her a little surprise
3) Our man, a basement scientist, has created a device that can meld human and animal DNA. Sure, he can see many applications of this technology but, he is just really into furries, kangaroo girls especially
